
According to IRNA, the 25th edition of the World Taekwondo Championship, which began with the participation of taekwondo players from 120 countries on Monday, November 23, hosted by Mexico at the “Metropolitan” Hall in Guadalajara, ended with the introduction of the top teams.
On the final day of this competition, our country’s team had two representatives, Mehla Momenzadeh in the weight minus 46 kg in the first round in the fight with “Sun Huang” from Chinese Taipei, while she won the first round with 6 breaks, in the next two rounds with 5 results. He lost 4 and 5 to one and withdrew from the competition.
Hossein Lotfi represented our country in minus 58 kg, who started his career with a 2-0 advantage and with 9-1 and 12-0 results against “David Fontes” from Guatemala, and then in a superior fight, the champion “Adrien Vicente” Defeated the Spanish titleholder 2-1.
He lost the first round 3-1 to his opponent, but he managed to win in two consecutive rounds 20-13 and 15-8 and then he won against “Omar Lakal” from Morocco with the results of 10-10 and 9-2 and went to the stage. The quarter finals have been reached.
At this stage and within one step of winning the medal, Lotfi lost the result 2 to 0 (3 to 1 and 8 to 6) to “Mohammed Khalil Jandabi”, the holder of the Olympic silver medal and three world rankings from Tunisia, and failed to win the medal.
Therefore, the Iranian national taekwondo team ended its work in this tournament with three bronze medals: Reza Kalhor in the minus 68 kg weight, Mehran Hashradari in the minus 80 kg weight, and Sajjad Mardani in the plus 87 kg weight.
Mehdi Haji Mousai, Metin Rezaei, Abolfazl Abbasi, Ghazal Soltani, Nahid Kiyani, Narges Mirnowallahi, Zainab Esmaili and Akram Khodabandeh also withdrew from the competition.
The national women’s taekwondo team is led by Mino Madah as the head coach. Neda Zare and Mehroz Saei accompany him as coaches. In the men’s group, Bijan Moqanlou is the head coach, and Masoud Haji Zawareh and Naima Khajovi are the national team coaches.
