The AFC chairman praises Australia for advancing to the round of 16 of the World Cup

According to Fars news agency, after defeating Denmark and advancing to the next stage of the World Cup, the Australian national football team praised the president of the Asian Confederation, Sheikh Salman.

Sheikh Salman’s message read: “Australia’s exemplary team spirit and motivation was indeed a sight to behold and it is clear that they deserved to emerge as the first AFC team to secure their place in the round of 16. They are praise and admiration.

On behalf of the AFC family, I would like to congratulate the Australian football community and Football Australia and wish them the best of luck as they continue their exceptional run in Qatar.

Sheikh Salman added, “Our Asian teams continue to set new records on the biggest stage and we hope that their strong performances will see them advance to the next stages as the tournament progresses.”

The Socceroos managed to reach the round of 16 for the second time in their history after a similar success in the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

Matthew Lackey slotted past Kasper Schmeichel on the hour after receiving a crucial pass from Riley McGarry to give Australia their second successive World Cup win for the first time in FIFA World Cup history, surpassing the feats of 2006 and 2010.

Graham Arnold’s men have to face the leaders of Group C on Sunday, December 13 (December 4) at Al-Thumamah Stadium. They can make history by passing Argentina and reach the round of 16.
