According to Tasnim news agency, British “Sun” newspaper reported; A woman who claims to have been raped by Cristiano Ronaldo is protesting the recent verdict of a court in the United States that acquitted the five-time Ballon d’Or winner of rape charges. According to this report, Catherine Mayorga is reopening the case to keep her £54m claim against the Manchester United star alive.
Ronaldo, 37, had previously paid the Nevada woman $375,000 after she allegedly raped him in Las Vegas in 2009, but the plaintiff was seeking an additional £54 million from the five-time Ballon d’Or winner with the new lawsuit. Ms. Mayorga’s legal team has claimed that she signed the agreement under duress by receiving a hush-hush fee, which is why they have reopened the case.
Catherine Mayorga previously sued the Portuguese superstar of the Manchester United soccer team, accusing her of sexual assault, but her claim was dismissed in June by a district judge in Las Vegas. The illegal and repeated use of confidential and special documents led to the dismissal of the civil case against this Portuguese attacker.
Earlier, federal judge Jennifer Dorsey ruled that Mayorga’s lawsuit was based on illegally obtained confidential documents obtained by his attorney, which tainted his case. Last year, another court in Las Vegas also recommended Mayorga’s dismissal due to the conduct of his legal counsel.
According to the “Sun” report; The case is now scheduled to be heard again on Tuesday in a one-hour conference call by a mediator. Meanwhile, the Las Vegas police have requested the courts to release their investigative files in this regard to the press.
Ronaldo has always denied any wrongdoing and believes that his relationship with Ms. Mayorga was consensual. The investigation at that point began after the American woman’s claim, but in 2019, a district attorney announced that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner would not be prosecuted.
