He added: “The previous decision was a permanent suspension and with a special precondition by the president of the World Judo Federation, which was annulled by the Supreme Court of Sports and again the disciplinary committee of the World Judo Federation suspended us for four years.” We objected to this vote and it took about four months for the case to go through.
The president of the Judo Federation explained that it took some time to present the bill and the other side, appoint the judges and other issues, and finally the CAS court decided to hold the trial online. It was scheduled for late December, which was finally held yesterday. The other party’s lawyers, their delegation, the Secretary General of the World Federation, the Special Assistant to the World Federation, the Chief Justice and two arbitrators were present at the meeting. On the other hand, our delegation and the lawyers of the Iranian Federation were present and provided explanations.
He said: “This meeting was very heavy and long and lasted about four hours, and after the defense was presented by the parties, the judges also asked questions.” Finally, the case was sent for review and announcement of the final vote, and I think that if it is not postponed as many times as the previous time, the vote will be announced in a few weeks.
Mirasmaili said: “After the vote was issued by the disciplinary committee of the World Federation, we had only 20 days to protest, while our lawyers believed that there were contradictions in the vote. Even inside the country, some people believed that we should not complain, but this was our last shot that should not be missed.
He continued: “It is not acceptable for the authority of our country to accept every word.” We consulted, but the president of the World Federation remained on his preconditions and did not fall short. This was the last chance we had to try and no sane person wants to lose the last chance. Experienced lawyers believe that the decision of the World Federation is contradictory and we took action.
The president of the Iranian Judo Federation explained: It was my duty to take this last chance. We should use it even if one day our suspension is reduced.
“Even if the final verdict is to our detriment, we must seize all opportunities, while yesterday’s trial was promising,” he said. This case has many sensitivities and the judges of the Supreme Court of Sport find it difficult to comment. I very much hope that with the bill that was presented and the explanations that we gave, the vote will be in our favor.
