According to the reporter of Mehr, holding the final stage of the “Voshi Grand Slam” competition has brought an Olympic quota for Iranian sports. A quota due to which taekwondo entered the list of Olympic disciplines as the fourth discipline, but it did not shake Iran’s sport for the Olympics.
The taekwondo quota is the 11th quota of Iranian sports for the Paris Olympic Games, while there are only 222 days left until the start of these games.
11 quotas in four disciplines
Iran’s first Mehr sports quota was obtained last year by Haniyeh Rostamian from participating in the World Shooting Cup in Egypt. Sharmina Chehl Amirani was the second Iranian shooter and athlete who received the permit for the Paris Games. He achieved this quota by participating in the World Championship (Baku).
In the following, wrestlers were added to the list of Olympic quota holders from participating in the first Olympic qualifying event. They participated in the World Championships in Belgrade in September of this year and were able to win 7 quotas out of the total distribution quotas in the name of Iran.
Based on this, Rahman Amozad (65 kg), Hassan Yazdani (86 kg) and Amir Hossein Zare (125 kg) (in freestyle wrestling together with Mehdi Mohsennejad (60 kg), Mohammad Reza Gara (77 kg), Mohammad Hadi Saravi (weight 97 kg) and Amin Mirzazadeh (weight 130 kg) in wrestling were the ones who got Olympic quota for Iranian wrestling.
Cycling was also the third discipline that entered the Olympics, although the athlete was not identified. The World Cycling Union has allocated a quota to Iran by taking into account the total points of the Asian Championship, the national championship and the Asian Games, and taking into account the international ranking.
Taekwondo is the fourth discipline that has been included in the list of disciplines of the delegation to the Olympics due to the victory of Ebrahim Hajdari in the “Grand Slam Vushi” tournament. In the finals of the final stage of this competition, by defeating “Jesorbek Jaysanov” from Uzbekistan, he took revenge on his Uzbek opponent in the final of the first series of Grand Slam Voshi, and while winning the gold medal, he also obtained the license to participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The 33rd Olympic Games will be held in Paris next August. Iranian sports has won only 11 quotas for these games
Slow process in getting quota
More than a year has passed since Iran won the first Olympic quota for sports, but during this time, many opportunities to become Olympians in various disciplines have been lost, and the result is a concise and compact composition that is certain for the Olympics today, while 222 days, Time is not too long and reliable for surprises.
Of course, in some disciplines such as weightlifting, fencing and taekwondo, it is certain that some Iranian athletes are Olympic athletes, but the lack of official announcement by the relevant world federations has not included them in the definitive list of Olympians.
Iran’s caravan has won only 11 quotas for the upcoming Olympics, while Iran’s sport has won 68 quotas for the Tokyo Olympics in 16 disciplines and formed the largest Olympic caravan after the revolution.
The 33rd Olympic Games will be held in Paris from 4 to 20 August 1402 (26 July to 11 August 2024). These games will be held with the participation of 10,500 athletes from 38 disciplines.
