The third title of Iran’s national sumo team in Asian fights



According to IRNA, the 21st edition of the Issykkol Games is being held on September 17, hosted by Kyrgyzstan, during which athletes from 35 countries compete in 27 disciplines.

During these games, the Asian Open Sumo Championship was held with the participation of 9 countries from the two continents of Asia and Europe (as guests), and at the end, the Iranian national team with a combination of 7 athletes won 2 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze medals. , was able to stand on the third platform.

Jassim Manouchehri, the founder of sumo in Iran, was the leader of our country’s national sumo team in these competitions.

In the weight of 75 kg, Hossein Mahmoudi won the runner-up title and silver medal after accepting the defeat against the representative of Russia.

In the weight of 85 kg, Mohsen Ebrahimi, as the captain of the national sumo team of Iran, after two wins and one loss, won the bronze medal in the repechage stage by defeating a sumo kari from Kazakhstan.

Ebrahimi also managed to bring another bronze medal to our country by participating in the open table, competing with the prominent champions of this field.

In the weight of 100 kg, Amjad Bali, who had qualified for the final match with 3 victories, played in the finals against the strong European champion, and in the end, the Russian sumo wrestler won the field to become the runner-up.

In the weight of 115 kg, Mohammad Reza Adalat Lord, who faced a tough draw; First, he faced the third person in the world ranking and the owner of the World Games quota from the host country, and in a breathtaking match, he succeeded in defeating this titled sumo player. In the future, he recorded 2 more victories, but in the final, he accepted the defeat against an athlete from Russia, and settled for the heavyweight silver medal.

Adalat Lord also participated in the open competition, and finally and deservedly won the gold medal of this section.

Mohammad Bagherzadeh was the other sumo representative of our country in heavy weight, who managed to win the bronze medal of this competition.

In the open table, Amir Mohammad Siavashi was able to win the runner-up title despite the significant weight difference compared to his opponents.

Finally, Rosita Khodadi, who was the first woman in the history of sumo in Iran to participate in this tournament, was able to win two gold and bronze medals for our country in the super heavy and open weight categories.

Sumo is a Japanese martial art whose international federation has been a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) since 1998, and its competitions are always included in the official list of World Games and Combat Games.
