In an interview with Mehr reporter, Alireza Rezaei said about the performance of the national freestyle wrestling team in the World Championships in Belgrade: The results obtained in the World Championships in Belgrade can be examined from several perspectives. One is the individual results, the team results, and the other is winning the Olympic quota. In the weight of 125 kg, Amir Hossein Zare deservedly won the gold medal and is different from his other opponents, but in the rest of the weights, the wrestlers did not get the results we expected. Of course, the essence of wrestling is winning and losing, and the results cannot be predicted in advance. But we have to root out the reasons for these wins and losses and plan for it in order to compensate for the results in future matches.
He said: “The national freestyle wrestling team is on the eve of the Asian Games in Hangzhou, in which the work is also difficult, so now is the time to criticize the national team.” As a result, the team won the runner-up title, of course, the wrestling conditions are not normal now, the Russians participated in the tournament this year, but their points were not counted, and this issue has created an imbalance in world wrestling. In this tournament, the Olympic quota was distributed, and in fact, we got 50% of the quota. Of course, the work to get three more quotas has become difficult.
The Iranian wrestling expert said about the Hangzhou Asian Games: the level of the Asian Games is not the same as the Asian Championship, and it is much more difficult. Many great champions lost in the Asian Games, so the wrestlers have to recover very well. Fortunately, they have a good time before the start of the Asian Games and they can have a good recovery.
He said: Wrestlers from Japan, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, India, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan are among our long-standing opponents, and in many competitions, our wrestlers had one-on-one battles with them. I hope the wrestlers do their best to get the best results.
