2-fold growth of electricity exchanges between Iran and Turkmenistan with the construction of the new Maro-Sarkhes line

According to Fars, citing the information base of the Ministry of Energy, Ali Akbar Mehrabian this morning in a meeting with Anagoldi, Deputy Head of the Cabinet of Ministers and responsible for Turkmenistan’s Agriculture and Water Affairs, Baimrod Anna Mamedov, Deputy Head of the Cabinet of Ministers for Construction, Energy and Industries of Turkmenistan. And Mohammad Rajab Muradov, Minister of Energy of Turkmenistan, stated: In the framework of the visit of the national leader and the high-ranking delegation of the Republic of Turkmenistan to Iran, good negotiations were held in the field of water and electricity with the presence of officials, relevant ministers and the vice president of Turkmenistan between the two countries of Iran and Turkmenistan. .

Stating that there has been joint cooperation between the two sides in the field of electricity since the past, the Minister of Energy added: In addition to continuing these relations, we are trying to expand the areas of cooperation in the field of electricity during this trip.

He considered increasing the capacity of electricity exchange between Iran and the Republic of Turkmenistan as one of the most important issues and stated: Turkmenistan has significant capacities in the field of gas energy and electricity production and is interested in using the capacity of the Islamic Republic of Iran for electricity exchange. Iran, as a large producer and consumer of electricity and most importantly, has a point of contact with many countries, is of interest to Turkmenistan in order to increase cooperation capacities.

Mehrabian reminded: During this trip, a memorandum of understanding will be signed between the two countries to expand these relations.

The Minister of Energy added: In these meetings, it was also agreed that the implementation of the 150-kilometer four-circuit power transmission line between Merv and Sarkhes would begin as soon as possible. The contractor for setting up this line is an Iranian company, and the equipment and facilities produced in Iran are used in this field.

He added: Also, based on this memorandum of understanding between the two neighboring countries, the technical-engineering services of Iran’s electricity sector will be used for the development of electricity in the Republic of Turkmenistan. Along with that, a visit will also be made to Mapna Group so that Turkmenistan can take advantage of Iran’s capacities to meet its needs.

Mehrabian named the increase in the volume of energy exchange as one of the main axes of this meeting and said: the political relations of the two countries are in favorable conditions, and economic relations should be expanded along with it. The capacity of economic relations between the two countries is much higher than the current conditions and both sides are interested in increasing the volume of economic relations.

In this regard, he added: Iran currently has the capacity to exchange 500 megawatts of electricity with the country of Turkmenistan, and with the construction of the new Merv-Sarkhes line, the volume of electricity exchanges between the two countries will more than double. Fortunately, in the past years, a dedicated line has been built in the Islamic Republic of Iran between Sarkhes and Mashhad, and it is hoped that with the start of the construction of the line between Merv and Sarkhes in the Republic of Turkmenistan, we will see the completion of this project and an increase in the volume of electrical exchanges to more than double.

He stated: In the field of water, there are common resources between the two neighboring countries of Iran and Turkmenistan, and in this regard, there are very good relations between the two sides. “Friendship Dam” as a common dam between Iran and Turkmenistan is the axis of unity and friendship between the two sides because with a well-defined regime and engineering, the two countries use the capacities of this dam fairly. Of course, due to the rainy conditions, the dam’s water availability is very weak, and it is hoped that we will expand the relations between the two countries in the field of water and witness the improvement of the water conditions in the region.

The Minister of Energy continued: In the framework of the border rivers, there is constant dialogue between the two countries and these border rivers are jointly exploited.
