4 intangible heritage elements of global registration have a direct link with handicrafts/ the need to create new literature in the field of handicrafts

According to Aria Heritage Reporter, in this meeting chaired by Maryam Jalali, Deputy Handicrafts of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts, the most important issues related to the holding and execution model of Fajr International Handicrafts and Traditional Arts Festival were discussed with the presence of the members of the festival’s policy council.

In his speech, the Deputy of Handicrafts of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts said: Handicrafts are important and include various fields. I believe that a new literature should be created in the field of crafts with regard to this festival. This meeting is for mutual thinking and policy-making and, God willing, we should be able to get help from the policy-making council regarding the form of holding and the implementation model of the festival.

Jalali stated: Handicrafts should be able to take its share from the opposite sectors. That is, we should be able to get the share of handicrafts from the field of facilitation, the share of handicrafts from various media fields, the share of this industry from exports, etc. By converging and coordinating with other devices, this is possible and can help us achieve our ideals, goals and results.

He pointed to the holding of the previous editions of this festival and reminded: We have organized seven editions of the Fajr festival before this. In literature and in our culture, seven is a sacred number and we hope that this period of the festival will be done in the best possible way. With the plans we have, we will turn the strategies into maps and the maps into implementation, and due to the proximity of the tourism and handicrafts exhibition, we will witness the crystallization and strong presence of this field in this period of the exhibition to help introduce this art and craft even more.

Referring to the global registration of four elements of Iranian intangible cultural heritage last month, Jalali said: These cases are directly related to handicrafts and are linked together. We should be able to use this link in the best way and witness the prosperity of handicrafts as much as possible.

Syed Morteza Emadi, the executive secretary of this festival, also mentioned the role of women and family in the field of handicrafts and said: Every festival has a specific color and sound. This festival should be able to pay more attention to the role of women and family. He added to the importance of the role of the media in holding the festival: the media is definitely our arm in holding this festival and they can help us in introducing and promoting this festival.

Alireza Tabesh, adviser to the vice-chairman of cultural heritage and a member of the festival’s policy council, also said in this meeting: “Many of the intangible heritage files of Iran’s international registration are of the same family as handicrafts and traditional arts.” Therefore, this link should be more concrete in this period of the festival so that people can get to know these global honors more.

Shahram Gilabadi, a member of the policy making council of this festival, also said in a speech: Considering the importance of holding this festival, preparing an encyclopedia in the field of handicrafts and registering traditional arts and crafts disciplines can help introduce Iranian traditional arts more than ever.

He added: preparing handicrafts atlas is also very important. By preparing the atlas, the topics and issues related to handicrafts will be recorded in a better way.

Tayyaba Ezzatolahinjad, an anthropologist and a member of the festival’s policy council, also pointed out the importance of the inclusive presence of people and artists in the Fajr handicrafts festival, and said: the mechanism and planning should be such that the conditions for the presence of all people are provided in a very appropriate way. In the continuation of this meeting, the chairman and members of the Fajr International Handicrafts and Traditional Arts Festival discussed with each other about the different models of holding this period of the festival and reviewed the implementation solutions.
