4,000 Volkswagen cars caught fire

Last week, the cargo ship Felicity Ace, which was carrying 4,000 Volkswagen Group vehicles, caught fire off the coast of the Portuguese Azores. It is estimated that this time the value was at least $ 155 million. The total value of the cargo was $ 438 million, of which $ 401 million was the value of Volkswagen, Porsche, Audi, Bentley and Lamborghini.

Mitsui OSK Lions is one of the largest shipping companies in the world and is responsible for this ship. The company announced on its website that two large consignments of firefighting equipment were scheduled to arrive at the scene on Monday morning, local time, to begin fire control. An initial rescue team is also on the way to cool the ship. Mitsui said no oil spills were reported from the ship.

Quoted from Bloomberg, Russell’s research team is simulating the overall value of the cars inside the ship. According to the group’s spokesman, the basis of their hypothesis to determine the damage is that all the vehicles have been destroyed. The group estimates that other companies (except Volkswagen) have lost about $ 246 million.

The Felicity S is about three times the size of a football field. The ship was on its way to a port on the River Island in Davisville from the German port of Amden, which caught fire on February 16.
