5 wonderful French films that you should not miss

This list of the best French movies reminds us why France is still as important to cinema as the element of light.

Charso Press: French movies have their own magic and they can be considered among the best cinema industries along with several other countries. Emotional, criminal, mysterious, drama and comedy elements make French cinema one of the most diverse cinemas in history. Still, many filmmakers around the world are inspired by the masterpieces, actors, originality and diversity of French cinema. In the following, we introduce five of the masterpieces of this cinema.

Elle

Elle is a psychological thriller based on the acclaimed novel Elle by Philip Gian. After this film was shown at the Cannes festival and attracted attention, it also won the best film at the Golden Globe and César awards. Isabelle Huppert received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress for her portrayal of Michelle, and critics hailed the role as her career best. Elle is one of the most different works ever made about assault, in fact the terrible thing that happens to Michelle in the opening sequence of the film is just a tool for the filmmaker to reach the vast dimensions of the human psyche.

Using behavioral psychology and using the psychological nodes of childhood, Elle shows a dark side of the realities of human life and reminds the audience that humans are born from their past experiences. The film is a multi-layered work about women and their relationship during their childhood with the first man in their life, the father, a relationship that can turn a woman into a feminist, Amazonian or victim in the future.

Xandark’s sufferings

One of the greatest, most influential and best films of French cinema is Carl Theodor Dreyer’s enduring masterpiece The Passion of Joan of Ark. This work can be considered the most acclaimed, the most famous and the best French film in history, which deals with the last stages of the history court of Jean-Darque and his tragic execution. The majority of the film consists of various close-ups of faces, hands, clothes, crosses and metal prison bars.

Perhaps the most important reason for the impact of this work is Falconti’s unique performance in the role of Jandark. His facial expressions show well the sadness and innocence of this French historical hero. The Passion of Joan of Ark is one of the best movies in history and one of the most famous French movies, and each and every sequence of it is a classroom for those interested in the seventh art.

The tall blond man with one shoe – Le grand blond avec une chaussure noire

One of the films that can be controversial by being included in such a list. An overlooked and forgotten work by critics, which also won the Silver Bear Award. This movie combines elements of mystery, crime and comedy in a simple but beautiful way. A comedy with many twists.

Frances Perrin is a violinist who works in an orchestra. He becomes involved in a plot to discredit Bernard Millan, the second-in-command in the spy department who wants to replace his boss, Luis Tulos. In a room full of microphones, Tolos forces his underling Perak, who knows everything is being eavesdropped, to convince Milan that Perak is going to see a spy.

Perak chooses one of the airport agents at random, and it is Perrin, who is chosen for wearing black and brown high-heeled shoes. Milan believes everything and investigates this innocent man. Unbeknownst to all, Perrin also gets involved in this interesting and funny story.

The Beat that My Heart Skipped

Jacques Audiard became one of the most famous French filmmakers on the planet with “A Prophet” in 2009, but long before that he had established himself as one of the most interesting French filmmakers. 2005’s My Heart Has Stopped is Audiard’s fourth feature film, a thriller about a talented musician (played by Romain Doris) torn between a life of crime and his dream of becoming a pianist.

My Heart Has Stopped Beating is gripping, tense and nuanced in a way rarely seen since Jean-Pierre Melville’s underworld sagas, it boasts Doris’ best performance, and it may still be Odyard’s best.

Titan

The film “Titan” directed by Julia Ducurno, winner of the Palme d’Or, is one of the most enjoyable experiences in recent world cinema.

It is certainly one of the biggest contributions of world cinema to the discourse of transhumanism to date. “Titan” goes to unexpected places. For the blurring of the boundaries of humanity, and for Vincent Lyndon’s honest and committed performance as the grieving father who accepts Roussel’s character and thinks his son is the boy he always imagined, this film does its job well, and it rarely does. He found something so strange and at the same time tender.
