A 4500-year-old cemetery was discovered in North Khorasan

According to Moj News Agency, the Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and Tourism announced: The first chapter of archaeological exploration in the ancient site of “Kalate Yavor” so far shows brief evidence of architecture and extensive burial structures related to the third millennium BC in an area of seven hectares. This research is conducted under the supervision of Koresh Mohammadkhani and Ali Akbar Vahdati.
Koresh Mohammadkhani, head of the research project for speculation and exploration in Kalate Yavor, said: “Kalate Yavor” ancient site is an ancient place related to the Bronze Age on the southeastern edge of the Bojnord Plain, where there are signs of settlement since the third millennium BC.
He added: This ancient place, which was accidentally discovered in recent years during residential construction by the residents of Kalate Yavar village, has preserved evidence of a 4500-year-old settlement and cemetery.
The academic staff member of the Department of Archeology of Shahid Beheshti University continued: The evidences obtained from the archeogeophysical studies using magnetometry in this ancient site show the extent and high capacity of this ancient site for conducting archaeological studies.

Ali Akbar Vahdati – the other head of the research project for speculation and exploration in Kalate Yavar – also said: The first chapter of archaeological excavations in this ancient site aims to identify the cultural materials of the Bronze Age in this place and to understand the cultural interactions of the intermountain plain of Bojnord with the lowland plain of Gorgan in the west. and the Marghab sedimentary plain and the Atak foothills in Turkmenistan and other parts of Central Asia in the 3rd millennium BC.
He added: Considering the development of Kalate Yavar village and the expansion of residential constructions in recent years, one of the main goals of this research plan is to determine the extent and extent of archaeological remains in the area of Kalate Yavar to prevent the destruction of ancient monuments in this place and to determine the assignment of the lands located there. It is an ancient work in the arena and sanctuary.
Stating that the excavations carried out so far show brief evidence of architecture and extensive burial structures related to the third millennium BC in an area of over seven hectares, he said: These evidences are divided into two time periods from the first half of the third millennium to the beginning of the second millennium. BC it is related that they present different cultural indicators.
Vahdati added: The first stage is related to the gray pottery culture of the Gorgan Plain and the next stage is related to the “Great Khorasan Civilization” which occurred in the late third and early second millennium BC in large areas of eastern Iran and Central Asia (Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan) has existed.
The head of the speculation and exploration research project in Kalate Yavor said: “Great Khorasan Civilization” has already been found in several ancient places in North Khorasan, including “Cholo Hill” in the Jajarm Plain and Eshgh Hill in the Bajnoord Plain, and there are clear signs of connection with Contemporaneous cultures in Central Asia have been observed in them.
Vahdati added: The fertile plain of Bojnourd has preserved important evidences of historical and Islamic settlements, such as “Kehne Kend” and “Tepe Masumozadeh”, which have been explored by archaeologists before, but this is the first time that the evidences of human settlements from The 3rd millennium BC was found in Bojnoord plain during scientific explorations and it shows that this area was noticed and settled by human populations at the beginning of the Bronze Age and on the threshold of urbanization.
