The new “Newsletter” feature that appeared in the beta version of the WhatsApp messenger will be used to receive the latest news from people, groups and organizations.
The beta version of the WhatsApp messenger on the Android platform includes a new secret feature called “Newsletter” that is being prepared for final testing. It should be mentioned that these tests are usually performed on the Android version of Whatsapp before iOS.
Newsletters are one of several information dissemination tools that are a useful way to easily receive useful news updates from individuals and groups such as local authorities, sports teams and organisations. Thanks to the addition of the newsletter feature to WhatsApp, users can choose to announce events and news related to the desired people or groups and follow their favorite broadcasters directly through this platform.
Newsletter functionality in WhatsApp, an extension for the Communities feature
The newsletter functionality in WhatsApp will probably be presented as an extension for the “Communities” feature. This feature offers the possibility of linking 10 groups together. For example, many selected groups have two separate groups on WhatsApp, one for intra-topic conversations and the other for open chat. Therefore, in this way, people can choose to participate in one or both. The community feature in WhatsApp provides the ability to gather related groups and also has the ability to broadcast (broadcast) to send messages to the relevant groups.
According to WAbetainfo, the WhatsApp Newsletter feature will appear as an independent and optional part of the app, which will differentiate it from standard chats and groups. This decision is probably due to the fact that not everyone wants to use it, as well as not providing the global encryption used in individual and group chats, since there is practically no point in adding end-to-end for public broadcasting.
However, other privacy measures have been implemented in this feature. Among other things, no one can know about your subscription to any newsletter. Additionally, unlike group chats, your name and phone number will be hidden by default from users as well as the newsletter owner. Earlier this month, WhatsApp rolled out a new update to the iOS version, whereby users can access the picture-in-picture feature while chatting in other apps.
