A new species of animal was discovered in Zarneh Ivan Cave
Hamid Darvishnia in an interview with Moj News Agency said: Ilam province, with its many natural wonders, has a very high biodiversity in terms of animal and plant species, but so far few studies have been done on them.
The faculty member of the Biology Department of Payame Noor University of Ilam stated that since 1994, a research team consisting of Bandeh, Saber Sadeghi, Yaser Bakhshi of Shiraz University and Qasem Kashani of Zanjan University have been studying some species of animals living in caves in the Zagros region, including a number of We started the caves of Ilam province, he added: “In recent years, we came across an interesting sample of crustaceans, which after careful study of credible scientific sources, detailed laboratory studies and correspondence with experts of this animal group, complete information about the new collected species was obtained.”
Referring to more detailed laboratory studies, he added: “Correspondence was made with local and foreign experts about this species of animal, and it was finally determined that this is a small crustacean sample with a size of approximately 5 mm from the end band, which after final approval named Agnara cavernicola The results of this study were published in the Journal of Natural History in the United Kingdom.
Darvishnia pointed out: The registration of new species of animals is done according to a series of international rules of animal registration (ICZN) and this new species from now on with the local name that was collected for the first time (Zarneh Ivan Cave located in Ilam province) and Researchers who have done the work of identifying this species will survive.
A member of the faculty of the Department of Biology, Payame Noor University of Ilam, pointing out that the registration of animals at the international level has a set of rules and regulations, said: This new species, which was inside the cave, was named after the living environment of this animal.
In the end, Darvishnia stated: “We hope that the identification of this new species of animal will be the beginning of increasing the activity of researchers in order to know more about the very rich treasures of wildlife in Ilam province.”
