A powerful earthquake shook eastern Turkey


According to the international service of Fars News Agency, Turkey announced a strong earthquake that shook eastern Turkey on Saturday afternoon.

According to the news agency “Associated PressAt 17:02 local time, a magnitude 5.2 earthquake shook the city of Puturj in the province of Malatya in Turkey.

The quake affected Turkey at a depth of 6.7 km (4.2 miles), according to the Turkish Emergency Management Agency (AFAD). The agency added in a statement that there were no immediate reports of casualties or serious damage. Turkey is located above the main fault lines and frequent earthquakes occur in this country.

Newspaper “حریتAn earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale shook Malatya province on Saturday afternoon, the Natural Disaster and Emergency Management Agency (AFAD) said. The quake affected Al-Aziq, Adiyaman and Qahraman Morsh districts, the agency said.

According to the newspaper, no casualties have been reported so far from the quake.

Two years ago, a magnitude 6.6 earthquake shook the southern Turkish city of Izmir. The quake affected many homes and caused tsunamis in parts of the city.

The head of the Turkish Disaster Management Center said the death toll from the quake in Izmir had risen to 91 and the number of injured to 994.
