A sincere meeting of the director general of performing arts with students/ Kazem Nazari announced the establishment of the university theater center.

According to Fars news agency, Kazem Nazari’s meeting with academic theater activists was held in Molvi Hall on Tuesday evening, the 8th of Shahrivar, at the same time as the last day of the government week.

At the beginning of this meeting, the general director of performing arts, referring to the colorful and effective role of theater professors and students in the field of this art, said: “If our theater is professional, it is a university theater. Many of our professionals have come from student theater. Our theater needs to be renovated in terms of form and content, and this happens at the hands of university theater activists. In this regard, thoughtful and creative students should be taken into consideration in order to improve the conditions of the country’s theater.

Re-launching the university theater center

In the continuation of this meeting, Nazari demanded that the university theater community help the directors to re-launch the university theater center in the General Directorate of Performing Arts. He informed about this: “Preliminaries for the formation of the university theater center are underway to select a person who will accept the opinions of the students and, based on them, lay the rails and, with the cooperation of the students, cause the growth and production of Iranian theater.”

In response to a question about the role of the Director General of Performing Arts as a member of the policy council of the International Academic Theater Festival, he answered: “The Academic Theater Festival has been held for more than a quarter of a century with extraordinary results, and professional theater is the output of this festival. At the General Directorate of Performing Arts, we held several meetings with the officials of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology and requested to speed up the holding of this festival. Here, I emphasize that the general administration of performing arts will be a friend and companion of the university theater festival in terms of material and spiritual, such as the budget and the provision of the hall.

Theater is not for movie celebrities

In the continuation of this meeting, the general director of performing arts answered other questions of the students. Among other things, he said about the use of face actors in plays: “Theatre is not for faces. Theater should pay attention to form, structure and content. Of course, it should be noted that this art also needs a box office and must return its money. Because some works are not desirable in terms of form and execution, actors put on faces to compensate for the shortcomings. “We intend to improve the quality of the content and structure of the shows with the right planning and support, so that the tyranny does not dominate the country’s theater space.”

More attention to the evaluation of the quality of public performances

Nazari also pointed to the changes made in the supervision and evaluation council of the General Directorate of Performing Arts and explained: “We tried to make changes in the supervision and evaluation council, but the main changes that I personally wanted have not been done so far. In the new management of the evaluation and supervision council, we chose an academic and concerned person for the job. Everyone knows and knows the supervision part of this council, but the work evaluation part is very important that we should try to increase the quality of the shows so that the country’s theater can reach ideal artistic conditions.”

Referring to the time spent on reviewing the works in the supervision and evaluation council of the General Directorate of Dramatic Arts, he explained: “Theatre is the product of the hard work of human power and is very time-consuming and costly. Therefore, we need to shorten the time spent on reviewing the shows and making corrections so that the groups are not charged extra.”

Trying to understand with radio and television to support the theater

The general director of performing arts, in response to the students’ request to hold such meetings continuously, said: “My profession is a teacher.” All I try is to spend time for the scientific community and students, because I grew up here. The prosperity of the country’s theater is due to the performances of good theaters by young artists. Definitely, this program will continue and besides students, we will also hold meetings with university professors.

Emphasizing on using the opinions and criticisms of students and the young generation about the country’s theater, Nazari said: “We support the publication of reviews, notes and articles by students on the Iran Theater website. We also request all students to participate in the critique sessions of the Theater Critics Association, to promote the growth and development of the country’s performing arts.”

At the end of this meeting, the director general of performing arts announced the effort to reach an understanding with the radio and television for programming and supporting the theater in order to encourage the audience to watch plays on stage.
