A story from under the skin of the chicken market these days

According to the economic reporter of Fars news agency, although the government has set an approved rate for the sale of hot chicken and believes that the supply in the market is more than the market’s needs, we still see that chicken is sold in many shops above this rate and the places where this rate is very low, that is, the market shows a strange resistance to the reduction of the price of chicken.
* 32 high-priced poultry farmers were fined 90 billion tomans in one week
In the meantime, monitoring and inspections have intensified compared to before, and high-priced chicken sellers are fined almost daily, and even heavy fines are imposed on the offending chicken farmers, as Masoud Amralahi, head of the inspection and supervision office of basic goods of the Ministry of Jihad Agriculture, said in an interview. He told Fars reporter: Just last week, 32 chicken farmers who were selling at high prices were fined 90 billion tomans.
Now the question is why the price of chicken does not decrease in the market even though the supervision has been intensified.
Fars reporter’s investigation of the chicken market shows that there have been events under the skin of the chicken market that have hindered the reduction of prices. Even though the approved price of 73 thousand tomans per kilogram of chicken has been announced by the Chicken Pricing Council, there are still very few sellers who adhere to this price.
In this report, an attempt has been made to check the supply of chicken from the main squares of Tehran city until it reaches the consumer. This check was carried out from the market in the chicken shops of Khursheed Street, Namjoo Street, and the fruit and vegetable squares of Tehran, and was carried out with the help of the inspection unit. And the punishments were from the Ministry of Agricultural Jihad, Agricultural Jihad of Tehran Province and Veterinary Medicine of Tehran Province.
At 10:15 a.m. on Khurshid Street near Shahrivar Square in Tehran, there is no chicken in the window, the shop is closed, the shopkeeper says: the chicken has not arrived yet, the shutters of the shop have been raised since dawn, but now that it is close to It is noon, there is no news of chicken or buying and selling, but the city is sleeping.
The head of the office of inspection and supervision of basic goods tells us: we came early, they haven’t brought chicken yet, we should have come a little later.
We continued the route and reached Namjo Street, another chicken shop had an empty window, and when he was asked about the availability of chicken, he replied: I have put it inside so that the light does not spoil the chickens. Jihad put about 8 chickens in the showcase, but he didn’t have many chickens in the refrigerator.
This shopkeeper said: He still hasn’t received today’s quota of chicken and when we asked why, he said: I don’t have good sales, these are yesterday’s quota, and sometimes the chicken stays on my hands for 2-3 days, of course, people’s purchasing power has also decreased. and the prices are high.
* Hoarding by some poultry farmers in the conditions of the inflamed market
Then, we continued with the minibus that took us to the area, along the way we found more new subjects about chicken, there was a large and well-equipped chicken shop on Namjoo street, there was a lot of hot chicken in the window, inside the refrigerator, both chicken pieces and He had a whole chicken, on a large piece of paper he wrote in red: Government chicken 73 thousand tomans.
The store has a manager, a secretary and a few workers, we were happy that we finally found a place with plenty of chicken at a government rate, about 5 to 6 people lined up to buy chicken.
Together with the inspection team, we go to the back of the window of this chicken shop, inside there were many gray boxes filled with chicken pieces of all kinds, including thighs and wings, to breasts and shoulders, etc.; An air conditioner blows on them so that they don’t get damaged, the sanitary condition is not good at all, these pieces are discolored, their skin is wrinkled, and there is a foreign body on some of the boxes, about 200 kg of chicken has been hoarded here.
Poor condition of hoarded chicken and inspection by inspectors
Amralahi, the head of the inspection and supervision office of essential goods of the Ministry of Jihad, told Fars reporter about this: They bring government chicken and cut it into pieces and sell it at several times the price. Chicken was offered up to 169 thousand tomans per kilo
* Scales that read prices differently
We go to another chicken shop, where it is also stated that the price of chicken is the approved rate of 73 thousand tomans; However, the head of the inspection and supervision office of essential goods of the Ministry of Jihad goes behind the scale of this chicken shop and checks the final price calculated by the scale. Although he has announced to the public that chicken is sold at an approved rate of 73 thousand tomans, the price of a kilo of chicken is recorded at 79 thousand and 900 tomans on the digital scale. Maybe he thought people wouldn’t understand.
Before the discovery of this violation, the seller was constantly praising his law-abidingness and referring to the violation of some chicken shops, but when his own violation was revealed in the registration of the price of chicken, he was disarmed and had nothing to say. This seller fined 10 times the price of the chicken
* A chicken shop: the quota of chicken runs out in one hour, after that we buy and sell at a higher price.
On the way, we go to another shop that sells protein products, the seller says that we have about 200 kg of chicken quota during the day with an approved price, which will be used up in one hour, after that I will have to buy from companies outside Bahman Square that are at the same rate. They sell more expensive, I have to buy chicken to keep the shop running, I have to sell more expensive than the approved rate, anyway, I have to have chicken for customers and earn bread for my family and these workers.
The seller of this shop said: I bought chicken for 79 thousand tomans per kilo from another company. In order to compensate for the more expensive purchase costs, I have to store the chickens and sell them in pieces at a higher price.
* The sellers of some stalls at the government chicken distribution center in Bahman square get more money
Along the way, with the accompanying group, we entered another chicken shop on Namjoo street, the seller of this shop, who was selling chicken above the approved rate to a young man, said: the chickens that are given to us at the government rate are small and tiny. It has fewer customers, some of them are so small that it is not profitable for the seller, and this issue has become an excuse for the abuse of stall holders in Bahman square, that is, if they give better chicken, they want 1 to 2 thousand tomans more per kilo.
This matter was confirmed by another chicken shop, in this regard, the head of the office of inspection and supervision of basic goods while calling the mobile inspectors in Bahman square, announced that the person responsible for the aforementioned stand should be fined.
In the continuation of the field investigations, we went to another chicken shop on Khurshid street, the seller said: Some companies that are responsible for the supply of hot chicken, do not give us chicken, but sell the chicken to expensive shopkeepers under the pretext of Akbar Joche.
In this regard, after verifying the validity of the issue, an attempt was made to examine other aspects of this matter; In the following video, you will see the inspection team’s entry into the brokering issue and the activity of an intermediary company for overselling chicken under the pretext of selling Akbar chicken.
* Rolling carts in Bahman Square and selling chicken at a higher price to stall holders
The manager of another chicken shop near Bahman Square told the inspectors: Some delinquent stall holders in Bahman Square charge more money for the supply of chicken, on the other hand, wheeled carts circulate in the square and sell quality and suitable chicken that is affordable for the shopkeepers. Most of them are selling at prices lower than the approved price (68 thousand tomans is wholesale), the existence of small chickens in the market has caused these people to broker in this way.
* People’s complaint about the time of chicken distribution not being clear and regular
After visiting the chicken shops and Bahman Square, it was around 12 o’clock when we went to Shahid Tavakoli’s Tere Bar Square in Borujerdi Square with other members of the group. The chicken stall was crowded but there were no chickens for sale. An old woman thanked the inspectors. The problems of the market are taken care of, but he complained about the lack of chicken and said that he had come a long way to buy.
Most of the chicken buyers in this square were middle-aged and apparently retired, before the group left the place, boxes containing hot chicken arrived and the lines to buy chicken became more regular.
But almost in most of the shops we visited, the chicken bar came around noon or they didn’t have chicken at all.
Of course, people complained about the lack of clarity about the time and place of chicken supply and the irregularity of the supply time.
The Head of the Office of Inspection and Supervision of Basic Goods of the Ministry of Jihad on why the supply of chicken does not have a specific time and order so that people can plan for purchases? He used to tell the people: Most of the chicken sellers do not go to their goods themselves and buy the chicken from an intermediary or a third person who brings the goods, and because of this, the goods arrive at the store late.
The The inspection team followed up with the manager of the chicken distribution booth in Tarebar square about the reason for the chicken bar not coming
* The quota of fruit and vegetable fields was increased to 120 tons of chicken per day
Amr Alahi, head of the inspection and supervision office of essential goods of the Ministry of Jihad, told Fars reporter: Before this, the daily quota of the fruit fields was 60 tons of chicken, which we have increased to 120 tons. We predict that with the increase in supply, the free price of chicken will decrease in the coming days.
It was around 1:00 p.m. that the visit to Shahid Tavakoli’s Tere Bar Square in Borujerdi Square ended, and this was the end point of today’s inspection group’s visit. When I was moving towards the city center by minibus, I still had the question in my mind, how can He solved the problem of the chicken production and supply market to the root, so that it does not attract high prices and brokers, and people do not have to worry about providing their food with thousands of problems; It seems that solving these problems in a radical way requires appropriate, logical and targeted planning and a realistic view from the first point of production, i.e. hatching and day-old chicks to chicken shops.
