Shirez Gorge is one of the wonders of nature in Lorestan province, which is only 50 km away from the city of Kohdasht. It is a beautiful combination of rocky cliffs, flowing water and green plains.
The passage of the Simre river by this valley has doubled the beauty of the region, Simre is one of the main branches of the Karkhe river and is considered one of the most important and permanent rivers in the west of the country, which forms the border line of Lorestan and Ilam provinces.

Director General of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts of Lorestan said: This province is the capital of Iran’s geo-tourism, and the Shirez Gorge is one of its tourism model areas that has been registered nationally.
Referring to the unique aesthetic features of this tourist site, “Ata Hasanpour” added: There are unique limestone rocks in this gorge and very thick and virgin forests surround this valley.
Stating that the water of the Simre River comes out of a cave, he said: This feature is a very beautiful phenomenon on the path of nature walkers and tourists, and Shirez Valley has all the characteristics of becoming an international and global geopark.
Hasanpour said: There are very old archeological sites inside the gorge or Shirez valley, unfortunately, some of the historical objects in these archaeological sites were looted before the victory of the revolution.
He stated that the history of human life in the Shirez Valley and these ancient sites goes back to the third millennium BC to the first millennium AD, and continued: Cultural life has been proven according to the investigations carried out in the ancient sites of the Shirez Valley.
Hasanpour added: There are several historical caves around the Shirez Valley, and from the beginning to the end of this valley there are several prehistoric caves.
This Lorestan archaeologist said: Natural, historical, geo-tourism and eco-tourism features have made the Shirez Valley and its surroundings to be introduced as a global site. Also, this area is the place of nomads’ summer camp and Qeshlaq, and it also has anthropological features.
Hasanpour pointed out that there are thousand-year-old olives called “Vereh Zardeh” around the Shirez Valley, and said: These olives have been registered as a natural heritage of Lorestan.
He stated that on the road leading to the Shirez Valley, the historical Humian cave with very beautiful and spectacular rock patterns has been recorded, and said: “Also, in another part of the village, there is the village of “Zhanur” or “Zaroon”, in which there is an imamzadeh called “Zhanur”. Hasanpour said: Shirez is one of the natural valleys of Lorestan and it is four kilometers long from the entrance to the end known as Veze Bridge.
Stating that the geotourist valley of this site is one of the geoparks proposed in the country, he added: In order to facilitate the visit and movement of tourists, a cable bridge has been provided and built in this area.
11 billion rials were allocated for the development of the infrastructure of Shiraz valley in Kohdasht
Director General of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts of Lorestan said: 11 billion rials were allocated for the development of the tourism infrastructure of the “Shirz” Valley of Kohdasht.

He said: Shirez Valley natural area, as one of the largest and most amazing tourist areas in Iran and the world, has unique capacities to attract tourists and develop this industry in Lorestan.
He added: Small and big springs and a beautiful river flow in this valley, which differentiates it from other valleys in the Zagros mountain range, and makes its rough and rocky environment soft and beautiful, therefore, the accident-prone points should be removed due to the mountainous nature of the route. , has been included in the agenda of Lorestan’s cultural heritage.
Hassanpour stated that the Shirez Valley is the oldest natural museum in the world and a pristine and untouched valley in the northwest of Kohdasht city, and clarified: This valley is 55 kilometers northwest of Kohdasht city and at the meeting point of the three provinces of Lorestan, Kermanshah and Ilam, next to the Simre river.
