The active presence of the heads of forces and members of the new government on Twitter has rekindled the debate over whether filtering is only for the people. Why Twitter is not filtered?

The issue of filtering has always been a point of contention between users and experts with the government and influential institutions in this field. One of the things that has always been talked about a lot about filtering is the social network Twitter. This social network was filtered in 2009 and during these twelve years, many discussions were formed in the media and even among the officials to remove its filter. Even on the eve of the 1400 presidential election, the candidates of this period talked about this issue. For example, Saeed Jalili said Twitter filtering is not justified.

One of the issues that users have always objected to is the presence of many high-ranking officials in this social network. Users are protesting that if Twitter is bad and needs to be filtered, then why are so many officials working on it? The same thing happened with Telegram, and after the filtering of Telegram, all government officials and public institutions left the messenger, but it did not take long for many of them to return and continue their activities in Telegram very quietly.

Activities of new government members on Twitter

Now, if you look at Twitter, you will see that the cabinet members of the new government are actively present on this social network, and almost none of the government officials comply with the resolution of the Supreme National Security Council. Rostam Ghasemi (Minister of Roads and Urban Development), Hojjatullah Abdolmaleki (Minister of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare), Bahram Ainollahi (Minister of Health, Treatment and Medical Education), Amir Abdollahian (Minister of Foreign Affairs), Ahmad Vahidi (Minister of Interior), Seyed Mohammad Hosseini (Vice President for Parliamentary Affairs), Mohammad Mokhber (First Vice President), Seyed Ehsan Khandozi (Minister of Economy and Finance), Seyed Ezatullah Zarghami (Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts), Seyed Javad Sadatinejad (Minister Jihad and Agriculture) as well as the head of the two branches, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf (Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly) and Ibrahim Ra’isi (President), are all present and active on Twitter.

In addition, a video was recently released showing a member of parliament turning on a filter breaker on his phone, which also caused a great deal of controversy and was met with protests from many users and experts.

New government on Twitter

Isn’t it a better decision to remove Twitter filtering in such a situation? Why should we heat the market for filter breakers by filtering? Is filtering just to limit and annoy ordinary users? It remains to be seen what will happen in the future, and will Twitter finally be removed from the filter, or will we see the rest of the social networks being filtered by implementing a plan to protect users’ rights in cyberspace?
