Afghanistan on the brink of food crisis

The United Nations says 55 percent of Afghanistan’s population will face a food crisis by next year.

The United Nations has estimated that at least 23 million people, or 55 percent of Afghanistan’s population, will face a food crisis by next year, Sputnik reports quoting Mehr News Agency.

“The country needs $ 606 million in financial assistance to help 11 million people in Afghanistan, of which 54 percent has been provided so far,” Farhan Haq, the UN Under-Secretary-General’s spokesman, said on Friday.

Farhan Haq, speaking at a news conference, also expressed concern about the escalation of the wave of displacement and homelessness in Afghanistan as a result of the deteriorating situation in the country and called for increased international aid to the people of Afghanistan.

Recently, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in its report warned of a humanitarian crisis in the country.

According to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, at least 3.5 million people have been displaced by war and insecurity in Afghanistan.

Also, since January 2021, in less than a year, at least 270,000 people have been displaced inside Afghanistan due to violence and insecurity.

The commissioner said it planned to provide basic and basic facilities for at least 500,000 people in Afghanistan on the eve of winter, although the situation in Afghanistan will get worse and worse as the cold seasons begin.

The report quoted Afghan citizens as saying that insecurity was the main reason for Afghan families migrating and displaced, and that many citizens were facing improvised explosive devices and life and financial insecurity in their homes. “As the winter season begins and living conditions are becoming more difficult for families in need in Afghanistan, we have sent 33 tons of winter equipment to Kabul,” UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) spokesman Shabia Manto told a news conference.

A spokesman for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said the plane left Sharjah Airport for Kabul on Tuesday morning, adding that other shipments would be flown to Kabul on November 13th and 16th.

Shabia Manto further added: all kinds of flooring, equipment and equipment for insulation against cold have been sent.

He added: “To meet the needs of the people in need of Afghanistan, we will use land, sea and air routes in the most active way; Additional aid will be sent to the city of Tirmuz in Uzbekistan and from there to Afghanistan.
