Air pollution at the time of suffocation

According to the social reporter of Moj news agency,

This has been the case for years. Playing with public opinion and prolonging the subject may come rain, snow and wind, and the novelty of asking for evidence for any subject even if you say two, two to four.

The media is the representative of public opinion, but so far it has shown that from the point of view of the governments, both before and now and even later, the previous government is to blame and we are innocent and we are the best!

If the report of the Tehran Air Quality Control Company is “Evidence!” To be sure, the air in the capital has not been breathable for any of the previous days this year. There are many factors of air pollution in Tehran, which are mainly rooted in human activities.

The number of victims of Tehran’s air pollution is not clearly known, but the statistics of the Behesht Zahra Organization (S) and the statements of some middle managers of the city without consideration show that the work has gone beyond greetings and blessings and even prayers, and I pray That it doesn’t rain this time so that maybe it will be what it should be, maybe those who stay are the most responsible! come to their senses and believe that this life, and this style! It is nothing but taking people to mass suicide. These people deserve a good life. Something that even they have forgotten.

The city has turned into a public cemetery, where we see the announcement of our own death every day, one day of corona, one day of air pollution, cancer, stroke, etc., but we still don’t believe that “death is not just for the neighbor!”

Air pollution is so intertwined with Tehran that it is part of it and has no intention of ever leaving it. If we look at the statistics, we will find that these two Siamese twins are very close to each other, so much so that it is impossible to separate them! Except with a national determination! No compliments and no slogans!

In their latest statement about Tehran’s air pollution, city officials have said that since the beginning of the year, except for a few days, Tehran has had polluted or highly polluted air every day. A new statistic also says that premature death due to inhalation of this air has come to all Tehranis, and in this city, cardiovascular diseases and cancer are the first and second causes of death. Their children are exposed to lead and other highly toxic pollutants such as benzene. The simpler meaning of this phrase is: “Fathers!” mothers ! If tomorrow your child’s grades are low, he has to read every subject over and over to understand! Remember that we were the main cause of it! Our child was not cool and calm! We wanted and it was the art of our officials that he become like this! Like the art of distinguishing a child who cooperated with terrorists and whose father chants death and quick execution of others.

The abundance of pollutants in the air of Tehran today is not only an environmental issue, which is a serious threat from the perspective of national security for several reasons, and it was from this point of view that the National Security Commission of the Islamic Parliament ordered the issue in 1387. He did his job and investigated it as a serious security threat, which of course was later abandoned and the matter was completely forgotten.

The issue of increasing air pollution in Tehran and big cities and its negative consequences is something that has been said and written about for years.

The first serious alarm about Tehran’s air pollution in 1374

Income. At that time, nearly 100 experts and lecturers in fields related to environment, geography and urban planning published a statement called “Tehran Air 74” in the conference hall of Shahr Park, in which for the first time, air pollution Tehran was named as a “national crisis” and the way to deal with it is “national determination”.

This statement mainly emphasized the health and pathogenic effects of air pollution and its authors tried to emphasize that one of the major factors of the worrying epidemic of diseases such as depression, anxiety and various respiratory disorders in Tehran is air pollution and this The phenomenon should be considered among the significant factors of death in Tehran.

Of course, this statement did not reflect so much that it can be imagined that it was considered as a manifesto for all subsequent activities to deal with air pollution in Tehran, but the fact is that in all the years after the publication of this statement, the health effect of air pollution was still there. which was taken into consideration and the environmental, economic, social and cultural works (because of the effect it has on the destruction and discoloration of historical, architectural and cultural works) this phenomenon has been forgotten. The reason for this may be that the statistics that were published three years after the “Tehran Air 74” statement by JICA (a consortium of international consultants who compiled a comprehensive plan to reduce Tehran’s air pollution centered on Japanese experts) are very shocking. Bode: Air pollution kills between seven and nine thousand people in Tehran every year! That is, on average, eight thousand people a year and almost one person every hour.

Tehran’s air pollution has several main culprits, the first of which is the many cars that increase in number every day in this city and the city has turned into a large parking lot. In this parking lot, contenders! They cover their license plates in front of traffic control cameras or resort to a thousand other tricks to enter prohibited areas. The police do not have enough software and hardware facilities to deal with them, and no one, responsible or non-responsible, believes that: this weather is not for me or for you anymore! It is not breathable for any of us!

Director of Tehran’s Comprehensive Pollution Reduction Plan has said that 89% of Tehran’s air pollution is caused by mobile sources (cars and motorcycles). Cars that do not have environmental standards have 30 to 40 times more emissions than other standard cars, and they are still produced and sent to our cities every day.

In a case that was prepared and presented to the Islamic Council of Iran from the perspective of a threat to national security in 1387, the total financial damages caused by air pollution in that year amounted to eight thousand billion tomans! (which is much more now than then) it was estimated that billions of Tomans were lost due to social costs – costs that all people pay regardless of their role in the creation of those costs, but are not included in the calculations. They say social – such as the environmental, health and public health consequences caused by air pollution, etc. should be added to it.

According to the announcement of the World Health Organization, which was reported by ISNA, by 2012, 10,600 people died prematurely due to air pollution in Iran, one third of which was in Tehran and another third in the provinces involved in the outbreak. And it is dust.

What has caused the current situation is the evasion of the law by the responsible institutions and disregard for legal approvals and expert recommendations, to which, of course, the cultural, social and behavioral issues of the citizens should be added.

As I said; The first serious alarm about Tehran’s air pollution was sounded in 1374, which led to the “Tehran Air 74” statement, in which, for the first time, Tehran’s air pollution was considered a “national crisis” and the way to deal with it was “national determination”. It was mentioned.

It was emphasized in that statement:

– National view on the issue of air pollution in Tehran as an extra-urban crisis

– Accelerating the review of the comprehensive air pollution reduction plan in a new 5-year horizon with measurable performance indicators and a specific monitoring authority as a hand-held and binding document.

– Entrusting the supervision of compliance with environmental standards in the field of cars and fuel to an independent organization from the producer body

– Forming a specific legal authority to deal with the violations committed during this period and judicial follow-up of the report of the General Inspection Organization of the country (this organization warned in a report in 1371 about the increasing trend of pollutants in Tehran’s air.)

– The development of public transportation, especially the metro network, and the expansion of electronic city services with the aim of managing travel demand

– Reviewing the way of informing the citizens and making this important clear and precise as their citizenship right

– Using the opinions of elites and experts in the field of decision making

– Monitoring fuel consumption in stationary sources, especially in industries and power plants in Tehran based on existing standards

– Preventing the implementation of partial and unqualified measures in the field of air pollution management

* In the statement at the same time, it was said: The consequences of Tehran’s air pollution are at the level of a “national disaster”, the dimensions of which will affect our society more clearly in the coming years.

Now, after more than a quarter of a century has passed, the level of achievement of the goals and success of the mentioned plan is in an aura of uncertainty for environmental experts and activists.

Lack of attention to the continuous holding of the executive committee to reduce air pollution with the presence of all the effective members of this committee in the past years, lack of monitoring of the progress of the program axes, non-responsiveness of the responsible organizations and violation of the decree prohibiting the establishment of new industries within a radius of 120 km of Tehran, the production of cars continues The non-standard and disregard for Tehran’s topography in the development of the city, especially in the west of Jamalgi city, shows that there is still no serious determination to reduce Tehran’s air pollution, to the extent that even the realization of some of the main axes of the comprehensive plan to reduce air pollution has been completely suspended. has come

The warning of the World Bank about the worsening of air pollution in Iran is another evidence. The damage caused by air pollution in Iran increased from 7.1 billion dollars in 2001 to 8 billion dollars in 2006, of which 1.8 billion dollars was related to the damages caused by air pollution in the capital, and most importantly, the World Bank noted that this figure In the next 10 years, the damage will increase to 16 billion dollars for the whole country. (Hamshahri Online)

As mentioned; What has made the air of Iran’s big cities unbreathable, including Tehran, is a set of factors that have been known for decades and even scientific and expert solutions have been provided for them, but due to management’s neglect, their implementation every year It has been postponed to another year.

Discussions such as banning the establishment and development of industrial units within a radius of 120 kilometers from Tehran have been practically ignored, cars and motorcycles that have been said for years should not be produced, continue to be license plates.

In general, air pollution sources are classified into two categories: mobile and stationary pollutant sources. Mobile pollutant sources include private cars, trucks, and motorcycles, each of which contributes to pollution.

Mrs. “Chancell Nouri”, a former member of the Tehran City Council, told “Tashman”: more than 60% of the pollution is related to these sources, and the contribution of each of them is different. For example, 14% passenger cars, 10% motorcycles, 7.15% trucks, 6% buses, 4% diesel minibuses, and other factors have allocated a share of about 60%, respectively. On the other hand, fixed sources, which account for about 40% of air pollution, include power plants, refineries, factories, household fuels, and offices and commercial units.

The air circulation in Tehran is from the southwest to the northeast, and this causes the pollutants of these power plants to reach the sky of Tehran, which is surrounded by mountains and high-rise buildings in the 22nd district of Tehran municipality, which is the main direction of wind. These diesel pollutants have a high amount of sulfur and particles less than 2.5 microns, which are extremely dangerous for human health.

Regarding the risk of disrupting the topography of Tehran by constructing high-rise buildings in the west of the city, the relevant institutions warned the municipality many times, but it was not paid attention to, and finally, we see: Tehran has no air to breathe.

In social networks, in irony about the neglect of the men’s government to the serious issue of air pollution in Iran, and placing the blame for all of it on the shoulders of the people, this clip is widely circulated, especially when the issue of air pollution is heating up again:

Mr. Moderator: What did you do to reduce air pollution?

Famil Dor: We have no factory, no production, no car, the fact that we are miserable is the biggest help!
