Akar: 6 Greek Rafale fighters are too small to face Turkey

According to Fars News Agency’s International Group, the Turkish Defense Minister on Tuesday once again questioned the Greek Air Force and the newly deployed “Rafal” fighters.

According to «ProtothomaTurkish Defense Minister Halusi Akar has commented on the arrival of six Rafale fighter jets in Greece. “The six planes purchased by Greece are too small to face Turkey,” Akar told the Turkish daily Milliyet.

“Greece’s arms efforts are a very destructive and provocative approach to relations between the two countries, and this is damaging our relations,” he continued.

Akar said the Greeks think they will get something by buying six second-hand fighters. According to Akar, the Greeks continue to make unusual demands and make mistakes with the encouragement of some countries.

“Our hope is that common sense will prevail,” he said. He concluded by accusing Athens of acting in violation of the Lausanne Treaty on the issue of demilitarization of the islands.

Greece had previously announced that six of the 24 French fighter jets purchased by the Greek Air Force could meet operational needs immediately, as their pilots had already completed their training in France.

Greece has allocated 11.5 billion euros ($ 14 billion) to modernize its armed forces over the next five years. . The cost of the jets and the purchase of air-to-air missiles are estimated to be 2.3 billion euros ($ 3.4 billion).

Greece and Turkey, two neighboring countries, came close to a military confrontation last year in a dispute over gas exploration in the eastern Mediterranean. Turkey has repeatedly stated that it wants Greece to pursue peaceful political solutions rather than aggressive ones.

The Turkish Defense Minister recently stated that Rafael’s French second-hand jets will not change the balance of power in the region. “They have entered an arms race,” Akar said at the time of Athens’ purchase of French Rafale aircraft. “They buy jets, weapons, equipment, but it is not possible to change the balance of power with a few second-hand jets.”
