Al-Maliki’s warning about sedition in Iraq: Our national and religious responsibility is dialogue

According to the report of Fars International News Agency, Nouri al-Maliki, the head of the Rule of Law coalition and the former prime minister of Iraq, this Saturday afternoon, in response to the riots of supporters of the Sadr movement in Baghdad, emphasized that the events of these days in Iraq are sedition.

At the beginning of his statement, he said: The consequences of today’s events, the repetition of the overthrow of the legislature, the spread of the atmosphere of fear and panic regarding the uncertain security, political and economic situation, made me sincerely ask my brothers in the framework [هماهنگی] and flow [صدر] I want them to take a responsible position.”

Al-Maloumah news website reported, quoting Al-Maliki, that the Iraqi nation is under critical pressure, which has terrible results. Because it deprives them of security, future and life, and our national and religious responsibility is to take the path of dialogue.

Emphasizing on correcting the path to start the process of rebuilding the legislative institutions, he stated: Trust in God and tell your supporters that you will start serious efforts for agreement and dialogue. If the weapon replaces the agreement, the consequences will not be good.

Following the intensification of unrest in Baghdad due to street protests by supporters of the Sadr movement, a number of protesters entered the Iraqi Parliament building for the second time in the past week.

The political parties in Iraq were waiting for the parliament session to start the new political process today, but Sadr’s movement again, in an illegal action, invited its supporters to demonstrations and the atmosphere in Baghdad was tense and chaotic. Last Wednesday, these pro-Sadr protesters attacked the parliament building and damaged public property.

In continuation of disruption in the political process of Iraq, the Sadr Movement has gathered its supporters around the Tahrir Square and in front of the entrance to the “Green Zone” of Baghdad with street fighting.

Since yesterday, the supporters of the Sadr movement have repeatedly republished the call for the demonstration in cyberspace, so that it will be held in front of the entrance of the Green Zone today, Saturday. Despite closing the bridges and roads leading to Tahrir square and the entrance to the green area in the center of the Iraqi capital, rioters supporting “Sayed Moqtadi al-Sadr” threatened today (Saturday) to enter the “green” area.

The end of the message.
