Alarming statistics: in the next 20 years, one out of every five Iranians will be elderly!

According to the online economy report, quoted by ISNA; Today, December 23, at the 5th National Elderly Conference centered on “Dr. Hakimzadeh” which was held in the conference hall of Rasht’s Porsina Educational and Medical Center, Ahmad Mouzanzadeh stated that the current elderly population of the country is seven million people. Iran reaches 15% in 1410 and 20% in 1420.
Announcing that in the next 20 years, one out of every five Iranians will be elderly, he added: the overall growth rate of the country’s population is 1.6% and the growth rate of the elderly population is about 2.5%.
The head of the Iranian Physiotherapy Association stated that there are physiological changes and physical, mental and psychological wear and tear, muscle strength reduction, movement limitations and debilitating diseases in old age, and said: increasing life expectancy is not enough and the quality of life and effectiveness of the elderly in various personal fields, Family, job and social are more important.
Mozenzadeh stated that elderly patients may have simultaneous skeletal-muscular, neurological, cardiovascular and mental-psychological problems, and noted that it is very necessary to create a balance between medical, rehabilitation, economic, spiritual and social problems.
He considered the optimal approach for a physiotherapist in the field of aging to be biopsychosocial and stated: the biological effects of aging reduce the repairability of various body systems and our goal is to obtain the highest level of performance and maximum use of potential abilities.
The head of the Iranian Physiotherapy Association announced that at least 20% of the elderly die within a year of a hip fracture due to various reasons, and said: 80% of elderly patients do not return to their previous level of functional activity after a hip fracture.
He found exercise therapy effective for improving coordination, muscle strength and endurance, flexibility, weight transfer and balance in old age.
