Alireza Hanifi: We pay little attention to ancient Iranian stories and characters


According to the theater correspondent of Fars news agency, Alireza Hanifi, the writer and director of the theater, said about the works submitted to the playwriting section of the International Festival of Ritual and Traditional Performances: With respect to the writings of all the participants and the efforts they made to bring their plays to the festival, I must say that some friends They had gone wrong. In this course, I read 175 texts, but it seems that the rules of traditional Iranian plays have been forgotten in some works.

This playwright explained: In the traditional Iranian show, making people laugh and entertain is the first rule and should not be forgotten. In traditional work, people get out of their daily lives for a moment, have fun and laugh. I have read few works that pay attention to this point. Adding a black or Haji to the story does not make it a traditional Iranian show.

Criticizing the state of drama writing in the country, he said: In general, nothing good has happened to dramatic literature in recent years. It seems that the writers have ignored the principles and the foundations of drama writing have weakened.

Hanifi considered the holding of workshops and short-term courses as one of the necessities of drama writing in the whole country and added: Workshops in this field should be designed for writers. It does not mean teaching and training. To discuss and analyze and identify the strengths and weaknesses, it is necessary to hold many meetings with the technical professors in order to fix the problems. I have also learned from other professors.

Referring to different ethnicities and cultures, this theater teacher spoke about the impact and richness that this diversity can create in theatrical works and said: Iran is a country with many ethnicities where different cultures and views have been born. In gatherings, workshops and cultural exchanges, they have a positive effect on the growth of literature and art, but the fact that this has not happened so far should be investigated.

He did not see the weakness in the plays that reached the festival only in young writers and added: this pain was also seen in the works of the greats of this art. Although I believe that the works of well-known authors should not have participated in the competition, it seems that the rush to send them to the festival has damaged the works. As a writer, I must first think about the literature of my country. Literature is an element of mental, moral, social and cultural development of nations. Did Shakespeare write for the festival? The pain that the writer has no income and thinks that maybe he will get something from the festivals.

Referring to the experiences and researches he has done in the field of Kurdistan theater, he discussed the role of cultural interactions and the impact they have on each other, and he evaluated the holding of the festival sections in different provinces with this coincidental approach. This theater director said: It is a good thing that several provinces are involved in artistic work and the officials understand that there is something called theater and music. When I was performing South Train show in Sanandaj, someone asked an organ if the actress is my wife or not. And for the same reason, they closed the work. It is a fact that the officials’ understanding of art in other provinces is different from the center.

Alireza Hanifi stated that he was not satisfied with the texts in general: I am an Iranian who has seen old tales and stories and I know why my drama should play the role of Lear. We have forgotten that black lives with people. He understands people’s pain. Black pain is not universal pain, it is common people’s pain and global pain is placed next to it.

In another part of his speech, he pointed to ignoring old Iranian stories and replacing them with foreign characters and said: There is a moral lesson in the story of Siavash Keli, but this aspect of Shahnameh stories has not been paid attention to. We have abandoned originality and replaced it with a foreign element. As a born farmer, I tell you that every soil needs a type of plant. Paying attention to characters who do not belong to this land is like an alien plant that should not be planted in a soil for which it is not. It both pollutes the soil and does not load.
