AMD Zen 5 processors are likely to be released with a slight delay

Study time: 2 Minutes

The next generation of AMD processors based on the Zen 5 architecture seems to be delayed, according to a new report recently released by Digitamiz. According to the explanations provided, the company has gone to TSMC 3-nanometer lithography to develop the new series, which due to the high volume of orders, the possibility of delay in the supply of these products has been raised. Stay tuned to Lyon Tak.

It is said that the priority of using TSMC’s 3nm manufacturing technology belongs to two technology industry giants, namely Apple and Intel, which is mainly due to the high investment of these two companies to achieve the next generation of chips.

AMD Zen 5 processors are likely to be released with a slight delay

Other customers, including Nvidia, MediaTek and AMD, also want to build their future products based on 3nm manufacturing technology. However, evidence suggests that due to the large volume of orders, production of chips for AMD Zen 5 processors may begin by the end of 2023. As a result, the release of these products to the market is delayed and may last until 2024 or 2025.

Of course, it is not yet possible to say for sure whether AMD will use TSMC 3-nanometer lithography for the next generation of processors based on its Zen 5 architecture. As a result, we have to wait for more details to be released. However, recently confirmed news indicates that Zen 4 processors and the next generation of Nvidia graphics cards (RTX 40) will use 5-nanometer TSMC lithography.

Possible red team options

There are a total of three possible AMD options for developing the next generation of Zen 5 processors; First, the red team will have to wait until 2024 or 2025 to produce processors equipped with 3nm lithography. Since the Zen 3 architecture was introduced in late 2020 and its replacement (Zen 4 based processors) will be available in late 2022, it shows a 2 year interval, given the above scenario, the most likely scenario is that AMD processors Present your future in late 2024 or early 2025.

The other two options are for AMD to use N5P (5nm) lithography for the Zen 5 architecture, which is actually an improved version of the N5 and better than the 4N build technology used by the green team (Nvidia). However, since the Zen 5 is supposed to undergo a major overhaul in the field of architecture, it does not make much sense not to use 3nm manufacturing technology.

The latest and most unlikely scenario is that the red team can agree with TSMC on early access to 3nm lithography, but since the two giants (Apple and Intel) are already competing for the technology, it is likely AMD is launching limited new processors to improve market conditions in 2024.
