America accused Iran of not fighting enough against human trafficking

According to Fars International News Agency, in its annual report on “Human Trafficking”, the US State Department once again named Iran among the “Third Level” countries that allegedly do the least to fight this problem.

In a part of this report that is related to Iran, it is claimed: “The government of Iran does not meet the minimum criteria necessary to eliminate human trafficking, and even considering the possible effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on the ability to deal with this phenomenon, the efforts It does not pay attention in this field. For this reason, Iran remains at the third level.”

Despite this, it is stated in another part of this report: “Government [ایران] Despite the lack of significant efforts, he has taken steps to deal with smuggling and, among other things, created a committee to deal with smuggling in the Ministry of Interior to develop strategies and plans to deal with this crime.

The report of the US State Department has also accused Iran of employing child soldiers without referring to the necessary documentation. This report also claims that “Iran’s government has failed to identify and protect human trafficking victims among the vulnerable population and continues to treat trafficking victims as criminals.”

The report of the US State Department did not mention the source of these claims. The US State Department’s research methodology for providing such country reports has been repeatedly questioned, and as such, these reports are usually described as biased and lacking in value.

Every year, the American government publishes various reports on terrorism, human rights, human trafficking, and other issues, and in almost all of these reports, Iran is placed at the lowest levels and every time it presents a list of accusations against Iran.

According to the law known as “Protection of Victims of Human Trafficking” which was approved in the US Congress in 2000, Washington is prohibited from granting any non-humanitarian and non-commercial assistance to countries that the US does not comply with the minimum measures to combat human trafficking and does not attempt to It is forbidden to fight against this phenomenon.

This law also authorizes the US government to impose sanctions against such countries.

Iran has already rejected the claims made by the United States in this regard and clarified unilateral actions, including the ranking of countries in the issue of organized crimes such as human trafficking and the preparation of one-sided and biased reports against independent countries, not only with the regulations and standards of international law. It is in conflict, but it weakens the efforts and international cooperation of governments in fighting these crimes.

Last year, in response to the American accusation of human trafficking against Iran, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran said: “Recently, in a biased report and using unreliable sources and information, the United States has attributed baseless, unjustified and unreal accusations to Iran regarding the issue of human trafficking.” Is. We believe that the American government is trying to divert the public opinion of the world from the role and responsibility that the country has committed to under the relevant international treaties and conventions in the field of human trafficking through these actions; For this reason, we completely reject the actions of the United States in preparing false reports in this regard and accusing other independent countries.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran emphasized: “The Islamic Republic of Iran, as a signatory state of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (Palermo), has so far taken extensive executive and legal measures in the field of dealing with the sinister phenomenon of human trafficking, which has been approved by the relevant institutions. United Nations and it has been confirmed and reflected in the reports of the United Nations Office against Narcotics and Crime. The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that in dealing with the global phenomenon of human trafficking, especially children and women, it is necessary to pay attention to the fundamental and root causes of human trafficking and exploitation, especially foreign interventions and armed conflicts. It is obvious that America’s interventionist and destabilizing policies have seriously provided the ground for the expansion of transnational criminal networks of human trafficking in the world, especially in West Asia and Africa.
