America: Countering the influence of Hezbollah is one of our key goals

According to the report of Fars News Agency, an official of the administration of US President Joe Biden considered countering the influence of Hezbollah in Lebanon as one of the key goals of the White House.
Ethan Goldrich, US Assistant Secretary of State for Near East Affairs, claimed that the Joe Biden administration is aware of the threats posed by Hezbollah to Lebanon and is working to counter the group’s influence in that country.
He said on Thursday: “At the same time as the crises become complicated [در لبنان] “We are aware of the threat Hezbollah poses to Lebanon, the United States and the region.”
Goldrich promised that Washington would use all the tools at its disposal to counter the “Hizbollah threat.”
He clarified: “In fact, countering the influence of Hezbollah and strengthening the stability and security of Lebanon are among the key goals of this government.”
In the past years, the American government has been leading a campaign in the world to reduce the popularity of Hezbollah in Lebanon. In this regard, Washington has put European countries under intense pressure to declare all of Hezbollah as terrorists. The US has also put several Lebanese banks and personalities on the sanctions list for alleged links to Hezbollah. In addition, the representatives of the American Congress introduce various plans against Hezbollah.
This decision was taken while Hezbollah is one of the most important political parties in Lebanon. America’s actions against Hezbollah have been repeatedly criticized by experts and political analysts who say that Hezbollah has played an important role in maintaining peace and stability in Lebanon and fighting against terrorist and extremist groups in the region.
In July of this year, the Axios website reported that officials from 30 countries participated in a meeting initiated by the US State Department a month earlier to deal with Hezbollah’s activities.
According to the Axios report, diplomats, law enforcement officers and intelligence experts from occupied Palestine, Saudi Arabia, four Arab countries along the Persian Gulf and 24 other countries attended a two-day meeting organized by the US State Department in late July.
American and Israeli officials said that the topic of this meeting, which was held under the title of “Law Enforcement Coordination Group”, was to deal with the “illegal activities of Hezbollah”. The Law Enforcement Coordination Group was formed in 2014 under the supervision of the United States to deal with Hezbollah.
This meeting was held on July 29 and 30 in Europe, and it was the first meeting of the said group since the inauguration of Joe Biden as the President of the United States.
Informed sources told Axios that officials from Bahrain, Israel, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE and many European, African and Latin American countries attended the meeting.
America’s actions against Hezbollah have so far had the opposite effect and the popularity of this group has increased in Lebanon.
In another part of his claims, Goldrich said that the US does not interfere in the election of the Lebanese president and that it is the responsibility of the Lebanese parliament to do this. He said: “It is not our job, the American government, to pick winners and losers.”
