American judge: September 11 victims do not have the right to seize assets of the Central Bank of Afghanistan

According to IRNA’s report on Saturday, Reuters news agency wrote: American families can use this amount to fund court rulings against the Taliban’s role in the attacks.

“Sarah Netburn”, the judge of the American court in Manhattan, said that the Central Bank of Afghanistan is immune from jurisdiction and if the victims of the 9/11 attacks are allowed to confiscate these assets, it means that the Taliban is recognized as the government of Afghanistan. has been An action that only the President of the United States can do.

This judge said: Taliban victims have fought for years for justice, accountability and compensation and they should not receive less, but the law limits the compensation that the court allows.

Netburn’s recommendation will be reviewed by District Judge George Daniels in Manhattan, who oversees the lawsuits. He can decide whether to accept this advice or not.

According to Reuters, the decision is a setback for four groups that sued various defendants, including al-Qaida, whom they blame for the 9/11 attacks, and received in absentia sentences after the defendants failed to appear in court.

These groups are trying to use the 7 billion dollars of funds of the Central Bank of Afghanistan, which are blocked at the American Central Bank in New York.

At the time of these attacks, the ruling Taliban allowed al-Qaeda to operate inside Afghanistan.

The US overthrew the Taliban and al-Qaeda in late 2001, but the Taliban returned to power a year ago when the US and other Western forces left the country.

In an executive order in February, US President Joe Biden ordered that $3.5 billion be set aside to provide relief to the people of this country, with the rest allocated to the families of the victims of 9/11.

Other countries have about 2 billion dollars of Afghanistan’s assets.

American sanctions prohibit financial transactions with the Taliban, but allow humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan.
