American senator: Facebook and Twitter should get permission to operate

According to Fars International News Agency, following the efforts of American lawmakers and politicians to hold social networks accountable for how they operate, a senior Republican senator announced his decision to require licensing for these platforms.

“Lindsey Graham”, a senior member of the United States Senate’s budgeting committee, said on Wednesday morning that the operation of companies that own and design social networks, including Facebook and Twitter, should be legal and according to regulations, and it is even necessary to get a license for their activities.

According to the news agencyReutersGraham explained that he is working with Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren and Republican Senator Josh Hawley on a plan to regulate and license social networks.

During a Senate hearing on Twitter’s security flaws, Graham criticized social media companies for allowing them to become powerful internationally with very few restrictions on what they can and can’t do.

He also expressed concern that the Federal Trade Commission has few tools to regulate and hold social networks accountable, according to the report.

According to Reuters, this senior Republican senator said in this meeting: “Social media platforms are not licensed and no one can sue them. In case, if you have a car, you need a license (certificate) to drive it, or if you are a real estate consultant, you still need a license (acquisition license).

“Graham’s plan may include provisions that would impose restrictions on the removal of statements and statements by these companies, while requiring them to be tougher on criminal use of their networks and outside interference,” the report said.

He also added: “If someone (social network) deletes your produced content, you should be able to complain about it and have a legal process.”

Reuters also wrote that Graham and two other senators did not respond to questions about the plan to legalize social media activities and obtain licenses.

According to this report, in the Wednesday morning meeting of the US Senate Judiciary Committee, “Peter Zatko”, a famous hacker who used to work as the security chief of Twitter, was summoned to give explanations about the security flaws of this social network.
