An asylum seeker was killed on the border with Belarus

According to IRNA, quoting the RIA Novosti news agency, the Belarusian border guards said in a statement on their Telegram channel on Sunday that Lithuanian forces had left the body of an asylum seeker with beatings on the border with Belarus.

Lithuania, Latvia and Poland are Belarus’ neighbors in the west of the country, and in the last 10 days the issue of asylum has caused a crisis in relations between Warsaw and Minsk, as well as Belarus with the European Union.

In the last two months, most asylum seekers from the Middle East, especially Iraq, have tried to cross the border between Belarus and Lithuania into the European Union and travel to countries such as Germany.

The Belarusian border guards said the Lithuanian border guards had dumped the body of a 30-year-old man with an Asian or North African appearance near the Wiedzie border crossing, who had multiple injuries on his body.

The West accuses Belarus of directing asylum seekers to the border to enter the European Union via Poland and Lithuania. Belarus has denied the allegations and criticized the European Union for refusing to accept asylum seekers.

Meanwhile, media reports indicate that Iraq has sent a number of planes to repatriate more than 800 refugees to Belarus. According to Iraqi officials, about 1,000 refugees have been collected since the operation began.

The first group of Iraqi refugees, including 180 people, mostly women and children, left Minsk airport for the Iraqi city of Erbil on an Iraqi Airlines Airbus plane. The second Boeing plane of Iraqi Airlines with 420 refugees left Minsk airport for Iraq.

According to Russian media, hundreds of asylum seekers held a social gathering at the customs hall of the Belarusian-Polish border crossing, demanding that the European Union allow them to travel to European countries.

Most asylum seekers held placards reading “Respect the European Union for Human Rights.”

Nearly 2,000 refugees, mostly from the Middle East, have settled in difficult conditions near the Belarusian-Polish border and are desperate to enter the EU via Poland.

Belarus has said it wants to reduce the crisis, following calls from the European Union and G7 ministers to end an aggressive and exploitative campaign against migrants.
