Ankara allowed 4 impounded oil tankers to leave the country’s waters

According to the Fars International Economic Group, quoted by Reuters, the Turkish maritime authorities announced in a statement that 4 oil tankers carrying 475 thousand tons of oil have submitted the necessary insurance policies according to the regulations and will pass through the Strait of Istanbul on December 12 (today). did
A Turkish law that has been in effect since the beginning of this month has caused delays in the transportation of ships. According to this law, ships are required to provide proof of insurance that they have insurance coverage during their transit through the “Bosphorus” strait or during transit in Turkish ports.
According to the Turkish authorities in this statement, Ankara also removed 5 other oil tankers from its territorial waters through the Dardanelle Strait because they could not provide their insurance confirmation letters.
Bloomberg reported on Friday that several oil tankers carrying millions of barrels of Kazakh oil are stranded in the Black Sea so that Turkey can make sure of their insurance status.
Ankara has taken these measures after the European Union set a price ceiling for Russian crude oil and provided insurance for shipments traded below $60 per barrel.
This caused at least 20 tankers carrying 18 million barrels of crude oil to wait for days to pass through the Bosphorus and Dardanelles Straits. All of these tankers, except one, carry Kazakh oil.
Kazakhstan’s oil is not embargoed, but since the origin of these ships is a Russian port, Ankara is concerned about their insurance status.
