On the occasion of the end of this year, the Downdetector website has published a list of the biggest outages and disruptions of internet services, on top of which the name of WhatsApp can be seen.
Downdetector is a website for intercepting and reporting outages of online services. In the last days of 2022, this site introduced 10 services that had the most disruptions during service delivery. In order to be included in this list, it is not necessary to be out of order for several days; So that the first three ranks of the list of the biggest outages this year are related to the programs that were interrupted for only about two hours.
Since Spotify and Discord are both supported on the same cloud service, when the cloud service went down on March 8, both apps stopped working. In this way, two of the three cases accounted for the biggest outages this year. Although WhatsApp does not use the same cloud service as Spotify and Discord, it ranks second and has experienced one of the most outages.
How Downdetector detects and works for service interruptions is based on user reports. For example, Spotify is in first place with about 2.9 million outage reports. Of course, this issue was influenced by the release of Taylor Swift’s new album -Midnights on Spotify as well, and the rush of users to welcome it caused Spotify to shut down.
It is interesting to know that unlike previous years, iCloud is not among the 10 services with the biggest outages and disruptions. Although this Apple service is struggling with many outages, but apparently due to the lower number of users and receiving few reports based on outages, it has been removed from this list at least in 2022.
In the image below, you can see the list of the most interrupted internet services in 2022.
Now let’s take a closer look at the definitive service.
Spotify – March 8, 2022
The competition for the title of the longest internet service outage this year has been very close; So that Spotify took the first place with only about 20 thousand reports more than WhatsApp and with a total of 2.9 million reports.
As we mentioned earlier, on March 8 this year, many services were interrupted due to a problem in the cloud network supporting Spotify. During this service interruption, users of this application could not listen to their favorite music and podcasts for about two hours and were disconnected from Spotify.
WhatsApp – October 25, 2022
WhatsApp, which is now under the ownership of Meta Holding, is known as one of the most important and popular messaging programs around the world. This program is used to communicate between family members, friends and even business contacts.
But on October 25 this year, the family of two billion WhatsApp users found that they could not send or receive any messages. The disruption lasted a little less than two hours and nearly 2.9 million service outage reports were recorded. In this way, WhatsApp was ranked as the second largest internet service outage in 2022.
Discord – March 8, 2022
And again March 8! On this date, when both Discord and Spotify services went down almost simultaneously, Discord users submitted about 1.1 million outage reports. The outage lasted less than two hours, and in the meantime, users used non-internet methods to communicate with each other.
