Anthony Blinken: The situation in Ukraine is “a crisis with international consequences.”

“That is why the United States and its European partners are focusing on the developments in Ukraine,” Blinken told a news conference after meeting with German Foreign Minister Analna Bayerbuk, IRNA reported on Thursday from Sputnik. These developments are bigger than the conflict between the two countries and bigger than the conflict between Russia and NATO. This is a crisis with global consequences and requires global attention and action.
In another part of his statement, the US Secretary of State claimed that “any new aggression by Moscow against its neighbor (Ukraine) will be met with a” rapid, strong and united response “from Washington and its partners.
German Foreign Minister Annalna Bayerbuk also called on Moscow at a news conference to take “immediate steps to reduce tensions” and warned that any “further aggression or aggression” by Russia would have “serious consequences”.
The German Foreign Minister claimed: “This is nothing less than maintaining peace in Europe.” This is vital for us.
Tomorrow, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken will meet with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in Geneva.
According to IRNA, the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions on four Russian-linked Ukrainians on Thursday, local time, as tensions between Washington and Moscow escalated over Ukraine.
Earlier, the Wall Street Journal quoted US officials as saying that Washington was preparing financial sanctions against Russian supporters in Ukraine as Secretary of State Anthony Blinken traveled to Europe to meet with Ukrainian leaders and his Russian counterpart. .
The Donbas region is located in the east of Ukraine with a Russian population, and since 2014, the Russians of this region have established the two self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Lugansk, and have formed local governments independent of the Ukrainian government.
Russia has repeatedly called on the Ukrainian government to negotiate with representatives of the two regions to reach an agreement and resolve disputes, but Kiev denies accusing Moscow of supporting and encouraging separatists and negotiating with representatives of these regions.
