Apple is apparently working on a proprietary battery to improve the charging performance of its products

According to a new rumor, Apple is working on a proprietary battery design that uses alternative materials for the cathode. This exclusive design can improve the overall performance of the battery, which will result in increased charging of future Apple products, including iPhones.

Currently, Apple uses the term “Designed by Apple” for the batteries of its products, but according to a report that ET News has published, apparently Apple wants to play a bigger role in battery development for its products. Given that Apple hired a Samsung SDI executive to work on batteries in 2019, the latest report could be true.

Apple’s proprietary battery is likely to arrive in 2025

According to a report today, Apple wants to use silicon in its batteries rather than looking to use graphite. The silicon-based approach to batteries can increase battery capacity and reduce charging time. Despite these advantages, silicon is prone to expansion during the charging process, but apparently Apple has found a way around this problem.

Although Apple is apparently working on its own batteries, we shouldn’t expect them anytime soon. Today’s report says these batteries will arrive as early as 2025. Considering that batteries are an important part of electronic devices, it seems logical to focus more on their development.

Prior to today’s report, other sources had said that Apple was working on a dedicated battery for its electric car, the Apple Car, but nothing has been confirmed about the car to date. Additionally, Apple wants to use 100% recycled cobalt in its batteries by 2025. All these things could indicate that Apple will use proprietary batteries in the coming years.
