Assad: The war in the Middle East is ideological

According to IRNA, the official Syrian news agency SANA, members of the Mauritanian parliamentary delegation headed by Mustafa Sahib, chairman of the Mauritanian-Syrian parliamentary friendship committee, met with Bashar al-Assad on Tuesday.

During the meeting, the latest developments in the Arab countries and the fundamental role of nations in the stability of the region through maintaining and adhering to its identity were discussed.

The Syrian president said: “The war against this region is basically an intellectual and ideological war, and this war is more dangerous and more effective than a military war.”

Bashar al-Assad continued: “The Mauritanian people have always adhered to the Arab identity and affiliation at various stages.”

He also stressed the importance of reciprocal trips between parliamentary and popular delegations between the two countries and exploiting the results of these trips and turning them into ideas and practical mechanisms for bringing nations closer together and securing their interests.

The Mauritanian parliamentary delegation also praised Syria’s position and its commitment to the central Arab issues, and noted Syria’s special position with all Mauritanians.

The parliamentary delegation stressed the continued support of the Mauritanian people for the Syrian people in the fight against terrorism, adding: “The terrorist war has targeted not only the Syrian people, but all nations that adhere to the Arab nature.”
