Atwana: The transfer of US equipment to Iraq is linked to an assassination attempt on al-Kadhimi

In an editorial in the London-based trans-regional newspaper Rai Al-Youm today (Tuesday), Atwan named the “Green Zone” as the strongest security zone not only in Baghdad but in the entire Middle East, and attacked three unidentified drones at the home of Mustafa al-Kadhimi I. The Iraqi minister pointed and wrote: “These three drones fired missiles at the house of the Iraqi prime minister, as a result of which three of his personal bodyguards were superficially wounded, and according to the available official information, Kazemi miraculously Survived the accident.

Referring to the remarks of the spokesman of the Iraqi National Security Council, the editor-in-chief of Rai Al-Youm noted: Due to the fact that some political groups in Iraq are protesting against the results of the recent Iraqi parliamentary elections, and in this regard, on Sunday, bloody clashes took place at the entrance of Al-Khadra region between Al-Hashd Al-Shabi supporters against the election results and security forces. According to unconfirmed reports, two protesters were killed and seven others were injured.

“Some in Iraq believe that some groups affiliated with al-Hashd were involved in the operation,” Atwan wrote.

The second group believes that organizations affiliated with Kazemi have organized these terrorist operations in order to gain popular support in the first place, and in the second place to strengthen Kazemi’s position to run for a second term as prime minister, and then to mobilize regional and inter-regional support. The international community should pay attention to him and support him in the election results, which Kazemi himself supervised and organized.

The third group, according to Abdul Bari Atwan, believes that the United States has planned to eradicate al-Hashd al-Shabi groups in Iraq, and under the pretext of this terrorist operation, carried out its plan and prevented the growing influence of al-Hashd al-Shabi in Iraq.

According to the editorial of this trans-regional newspaper, the supporters of the third group believe that the United States is looking for an excuse to eliminate and disarm the al-Hashd al-Shabi groups because they have now become a key member of the resistance and from Washington’s point of view in attack. Formed a few weeks ago against the American air base in the Al-Tanf area, located in the border triangle of Iraq, Jordan and Syria, and before that, they were involved in the attack on the Ain al-Assad base.

“Al-Hashd al-Shabi wants the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq, but Washington wants the continued presence of American troops in Iraq, contrary to the decision of the House of Representatives, and in this regard, the Syrian News Agency reported on Sunday that the US withdrew about 250 heavy weapons from its bases.” In Syria, it has moved to its bases in Iraq.

At the end of his editorial, Atwan claimed that the United States supported the newly formed coalition between Sadr and former Parliament Speaker Mohammad al-Halbousi and Massoud Barzani’s party. The coalition has won a majority of seats in parliament, and al-Hashd al-Shabi is seen as the biggest obstacle on its way to gaining power and keeping Mustafa Kazemi in the prime minister’s office. Or weakened it and drove it out of the influential political circles in Iraq.
