Bangladesh has criticized US sanctions

“We expect a more reasoned and fact-based response from the United States,” Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Ak Abdulmomen was quoted as saying by China’s Global Times. He noted that Dhaka would consider whether US action was a result of geopolitical issues.
He made the remarks on Monday after Bangladeshi Foreign Ministry summoned US Ambassador to Dhaka Earl R. Miller and expressed Bangladesh’s dissatisfaction with the move.
Asked if the move would cloud Bangladesh’s relations with the United States, the Bangladeshi foreign minister said: “I do not think so, but he immediately added: ‘It depends on the United States.’
He emphasized that the allegations of human rights abuses by the Bangladeshi special anti-crime forces were not based on facts.
The Treasury Department and the US State Department on Friday announced human rights sanctions against the Bangladesh Special Forces Rapid Reaction Force and seven current and former officials.
Eurasia Review: The United States must look at its human rights record
Reacting to the announcement of US human rights sanctions against Bangladesh, the Eurasia Review news site also noted in a report that while Bangladesh is working to ensure security in the region, US sanctions against the country are problematic.
According to the report, Bangladeshi security agencies are working to bring peace to the region, and US action to sanction senior Bangladeshi officials is highly inappropriate. “Extrajudicial killings occur in many countries, such as Pakistan, but we do not see such actions against those countries because the United States needs Pakistan to help its interests in Afghanistan,” the report added.
“Millions go missing in the United States every year, but the United States has no idea,” Eurasia Review said. US police kill thousands every year. This is an inappropriate global habit of the United States and it imposes sanctions on various countries such as Iran, Venezuela and Iraq on the pretext of human rights.
“It is very disappointing that we are seeing sanctions against Bangladesh alongside countries like North Korea and Myanmar,” he said, emphasizing the repeated human rights abuses in the United States by police violence.
