Beijing: The Russian side announced its commitment to resume peace talks with Ukraine

According to Fars International News Group, at the end of the two-day visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Moscow, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the presidents of the two countries signed a joint statement on the Ukraine issue at the end of their meetings.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry also said that the Russian side has renewed its commitment to resume peace talks as soon as possible, which Beijing appreciates.

Earlier, Russian and Chinese sources had reported that one of the main focuses of the Chinese President’s visit to Russia is the Ukraine crisis and Beijing’s attempt to mediate between Moscow and Kiev to return to the negotiating table.

The Chinese Foreign Minister also said about Xi’s visit to Moscow: the presidents of China and Russia have reached a lot of consensus in their negotiations and the cooperation between the two sides is strategic and reliable.

He said about America’s efforts to create tension in the region: the countries of the region should be vigilant and avoid coercion and exploitation by the United States.

The Chinese Foreign Minister further added: Washington is forcing some countries to encircle and contain China even at the cost of the interests of its allies.

The Chinese President met and talked with his Russian counterpart in Moscow yesterday, and both sides described their talks as cordial and constructive. Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday that if the West and Ukraine are ready, the plan presented by China can be used as a basis for a compromise in Ukraine.

At the same time, the United States, which has been one of the main suppliers of weapons to Kiev since the start of the war in Ukraine, has rejected China’s peace plan to end the conflict and said that Beijing is not a neutral mediator.

John Kirby, spokesman for the National Security Council of the White House, said in a daily press conference that if China wants to play a constructive role in Ukraine, it should encourage Russia to end its attack on that country.
