Belgium suspended the prisoner exchange agreement with Iran – Mehr news agency Iran and world’s news



According to Mehr news agency, the news base Politico On Thursday evening, Belgium announced the suspension of the prisoner exchange agreement with Iran.

According to this report, the Supreme Court of Belgium suspended the prisoner exchange agreement with Iran.

This is despite the fact that the Belgian Parliament had previously approved the prisoner exchange agreement between Brussels and Tehran. This treaty was approved by the Belgian Parliament with 79 votes in favor, 41 votes against and 11 abstentions.

This treaty allows prisoners from both sides to serve their sentences in their respective countries.

The Foreign Relations Commission of the Belgian Parliament had already approved this treaty.

Meanwhile, Nasser Kanani, the spokesman of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in response to a question regarding the latest status of Asadullah Asadi, the Iranian diplomat captured in Belgium, said: Regarding Mr. Asadullah Asadi, the Islamic Republic of Iran has announced and emphasized its positions many times. The discussion of judicial agreements, whether extradition of criminals or cooperation related to criminal and civil issues, is a common issue between countries.

He added: Iran and Belgium signed a significant number of such agreements with different countries, and the conclusion of these agreements is normal and known for bilateral cooperation.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the arrest of the Iranian diplomat is a completely illegal process and a flagrant violation of the 1961 Vienna Convention, and said: Our demand from the Belgian government is to immediately release the Iranian diplomat and restore his dignity and compensate for the damage caused and to Heresy in violating the immunity of diplomats to accept their responsibility.

Also, a group of social activists gathered in front of the Belgian Embassy in Tehran and demanded the immediate release of Asadullah Asadi, the diplomat of our country who was captured in Belgium.

Asadollah Asadi was a diplomat of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Austria who was arrested four years ago while traveling from Germany on false charges and is currently being held illegally in Belgian prisons.
