The US president announced in the 2023 budget that he had requested $ 5 million for research into social media damage to users’ mental health, as well as what the government could do to address the damage.

The request comes as Facebook whistleblower Francis Hogan testified before several congressional committees a few months ago, accusing Meta (Facebook’s parent company of Instagram) of ignoring the safety of young users.
