Biden does not remove the IRGC from the list of terrorist organizations – Mehr News Agency | Iran and world’s news

According to a senior Western official, US President Joe Biden has finalized his decision to keep the name of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on the black list of terrorist organizations in the country.

Another informed source said that Biden had announced this issue in a telephone call with Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett yesterday, adding that the decision was completely finalized and the window for granting concessions to Iran was closed.

Biden’s decision comes after EU foreign policy chief Joseph Borrell said that during his visit to Tehran, his deputy, Enrique Mora, had prepared a package of proposals under which the United States would remove the name. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps agrees with its blacklist, but maintains sanctions against the organization.

Western media also claimed that during Mora’s visit, the Islamic Republic agreed to resume talks on issues other than the removal of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps from the US list of terrorist organizations, which was the focus of the last round of talks in Vienna.

In previous rounds of the Vienna talks, the Islamic Republic had called on the United States to remove the Revolutionary Guards from its list of terrorist organizations. The United States, however, rejected the request, which led to a stalemate in the negotiations. Politico quoted Western officials as saying that during Mura’s visit, the Islamic Republic did not back down, but expressed a desire to resume talks on non-Revolutionary Guards issues.

Under former President Donald Trump, the United States added the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to its list of foreign terrorist organizations in 2019 in line with what he called the “policy of maximum pressure” on Iran.
