Biden’s letter to the US Congress to introduce Qatar as a non-NATO ally



According to the White House, the president said in the letter that the decision was made in light of Qatar’s assistance to US efforts at Centcom, as well as the importance of deepening bilateral defense and security cooperation between the two countries.

According to IRNA, US President Joe Biden announced on Monday local time during a meeting with Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar at the White House, that Doha will be a major non-NATO ally of Washington.

“In the past year, Qatar has played a key role in securing the very best interests of the United States,” the president told reporters at the start of a meeting at the White House. From ensuring the safe transfer of Afghans to maintaining stability in Gaza.

He added that aid to Palestine, pressure on the ISIS terrorist group and countering threats throughout the Middle East are among Qatar’s roles.

Biden said that in our meeting today, we will discuss security in the Persian Gulf and the Middle East (West Asia), ensuring stability in global energy supply, continuing cooperation to support the Afghan people, and strengthening trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.

Qatar Airways has signed a $ 20 billion deal with Boeing to help create tens of thousands of jobs in the United States, the president said.

Biden stated that he would announce to Congress his intention to introduce and identify Qatar as a major US ally and ally outside NATO.

A non-NATO ally or non-NATO ally refers to a group of US allies who have strategic relations with the Washington Armed Forces but are not members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Washington claims that giving the title to its allies has financial and military benefits for them.
