Borrell: EU has no second plan for Iran – Mehr News Agency | Iran and world’s news

According to the Jerusalem Post, quoting the Jerusalem Post, EU foreign policy chief Joseph Borrell says that the bloc will not think about “Plan B” or the second plan if diplomacy around the revival of the UN Security Council fails.

This statement can be seen as a clear contradiction to the claim of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, who said “if Iran does not change course, we are ready to resort to other options.”

“It’s time to get back to the negotiating table, and I don’t want to think about Plan B because there’s no second plan that comes to mind,” says Borrell. It can not be a good plan.

However, the EU foreign policy chief claimed that time was running out for Iran to return to the talks and that the new Iranian government had enough time to study the case and train its negotiating team.

He also claimed that Tehran was not only vague about the timing of the resumption of indirect talks with the United States, but also did not even adhere to the timeframe requested by the United States for preliminary talks in Brussels.

Borrell had previously claimed that Iranian officials wanted to meet with European officials who are coordinating indirect Tehran-Washington talks on Borjam.

Borrell had said he was ready to meet with Iranian officials, but could not say when the meeting might take place.

Meanwhile, EU envoy Enrique Mora, who is in charge of coordinating the Vienna nuclear talks, who was in Tehran, met with the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister on Thursday.

Following the meeting, the National News website published a report claiming that after the meeting between Iranian and EU officials in Tehran, the two sides failed to agree on a timeframe for the resumption of the Vienna talks.

The report also said that the two sides were scheduled to meet in Brussels in the coming days for further talks.
