Borrell: Returning to Borjam is the first step in addressing other Iranian issues

According to Fars News Agency’s International Group, EU foreign policy chief Joseph Borrell said on Saturday that returning to the UN Security Council was a “first step” in addressing issues related to Iran, adding that it was not possible to address them all at once.

Borrell in an interview with the newspaper «Middle East“The current efforts to return to the Comprehensive Joint Action Plan (CJAP) are the first step in addressing issues that he claims Iran is interfering in the internal affairs of other countries,” he said.

Al-Sharq al-Awsat then raised questions about the current pressure to return to the nuclear deal and whether the Europeans are concerned about Iran’s development of a drone and ballistic missile program. “The EU is concerned about a variety of issues, but not all of them can be resolved at once,” Borrell said.

The EU foreign policy chief added that talks were now under way to return to the nuclear deal, but that was not the end of the matter because there were other issues to be discussed.

“The first step is to prevent a nuclear Iran,” he said. “After that, we will address other issues as well.”

Asked about European concerns about conflict in the West Asian region if Iran’s alleged interference in other countries’ affairs continues, Borrell said there are many reasons to worry about the dangers in the region, but the first step is to return to the UN Security Council.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, who is in New York, has stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran will adhere to diplomacy in accordance with its principles, despite US negligence in the Borjam issue that has continued since the Obama administration and European inaction. It is ready for outcome-oriented talks that will serve the interests and rights of the Iranian people.

“As soon as our studies are completed, the talks will take place,” he said, referring to the timing of Iran’s return to the Vienna talks. ».

“We have talked to the GCC countries about the challenges we have with Iran,” US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near East Affairs Joey Hood said Friday. “We are currently calling on Iran to provide guarantees of full adherence to the nuclear deal, and we are currently focusing on the option of diplomacy to engage with Tehran.”

“As soon as the Iranians announce their readiness, we are ready to return to the talks in Vienna, and as Blinken has made clear, this readiness will not last forever, so we urge the Iranians to act more quickly,” Hood said.

So far, six rounds of talks have been held in Vienna between the United States and other parties to the Security Council other than Iran to facilitate the return of the United States to the Security Council. The parties say tangible progress has been made in the talks, but some differences remain.

Although the United States has been a party to the UN Security Council in violation of its international obligations, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has once again tried to intimidate Iran into returning to the Vienna talks.

Blinken claimed at a news conference Friday morning (Tehran time) that Iran had not announced a date for a return to the Vienna talks. He also threatened once again that the possibility of a return to mutual commitment to the UN Security Council was not unlimited.

He also claimed that given Iran’s nuclear progress, there may come a time when a bilateral return to the IAEA Board would not have the benefits of implementing the initial agreement.
