British defense minister resigns
According to Fars International News Agency, in the midst of conflicting opinions about Britain’s decision to introduce “Ben Wallace”, the current defense minister of this country, as an option to succeed the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), it is now known about Wallace’s decision to resign.
“The Times” newspaper reported on Saturday evening, quoting Wallace, that he plans to resign from the Ministry of Defense in the course of the changes facing the British cabinet next fall.
Wallace told this publication that he informed British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak of his decision to resign as defense minister on June 16 and planned to announce this decision in an official statement at the end of the summer season.
Based on this, he stated that he had to announce this news early due to the leak of his decision to resign to the English media, and said that he will refuse to participate in the next general elections.
Earlier, British media reported that London is looking to introduce Wallace as an option to replace Jens Stoltenberg, the NATO Secretary General, whose mandate in this post has been extended for another year.
In this regard, “Telegraph” newspaper wrote that Sonak tried to convince US President Joe Biden to support Wallace’s candidacy for NATO Secretary General during his trip to America.
However, informed sources in NATO said that if the British defense minister cannot increase the country’s military budget for this year, then he should have no hope of being elected as the next secretary general of this military alliance.
