Bulgaria and Hungary warning; Ukraine is turning into a war of attrition for Europe

According to Fars News Agency, on the eve of the first anniversary of the beginning of the war between Russia and Ukraine, the President of Hungary visited Bulgaria and consulted with his counterpart about bilateral relations and the war in Ukraine.

Media sources from Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, reported that the president of this country spoke with the president of Hungary about the developments in Ukraine in a joint press conference and announced that both countries are concerned about the war in Ukraine.

According to the news agency DiceRoman Radov said in a joint meeting with Katalin Novak: “We have a common concern about the situation in Ukraine. This conflict is becoming a global economic conflict that now threatens all of Europe. It is becoming a war of attrition not only for the parties directly involved, but also for Europe and our economy and social system.”

The Bulgarian president continued: “We are convinced that the solution to this conflict will not be achieved by increasing the supply of weapons (but) only by showing the will to engage in dialogue and diplomacy, tensions should be reduced and hostilities should be stopped.”

According to him, “the crisis (Ukraine war) has been going on for a year now, and unfortunately, we still do not see the conditions of peace in Ukraine. But we must try to prevent the crisis and military pressure from intensifying so that the conditions for lasting peace can be provided as soon as possible.”

During the meeting in Sofia, the presidents of Bulgaria and Hungary agreed to work together in the field of energy supply while talking about the energy cooperation of the two countries. They also emphasized the importance of using nuclear energy to supply the energy needed by their countries.

The opposition of the leaders of these two Eastern European countries to the continuation of arms aid to Ukraine has been done in a situation where the Hungarian authorities have declared their opposition to the pressure of the United States and some Western European countries to impose unprecedented sanctions against Russia since the beginning of this war.
