Burrell: Regarding the JCPOA, communication channels with Iran must be maintained – Mehr news agency Iran and world’s news

According to Mehr news agency, EU foreign policy official Josep Borrell stressed on maintaining communication channels regarding the Iran nuclear agreement in the two sections of “Common Foreign and Security Policy” and “Common Security and Defense Policy” in the annual report of the European Parliament.

Once again, taking an interventionist stance and supporting the recent unrest in Iran, he claimed: We are facing many challenges, but Iran is one of the most difficult challenges. Repressing protesters and resorting to death sentence is not acceptable for us! These hostile and interventionist statements are at a time when European countries are among the biggest violators of human rights; Burrell, however, preferred to let it pass easily.

Borrell repeated Tehran’s baseless claim of providing weapons and military support to Moscow in the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine and claimed: “Iran’s (Iran) military support to Russia in this country’s attack on Ukraine is also unacceptable.” I personally conveyed this message to my Iranian counterparts on several occasions. They deny sending weapons to Russia, but I think the truth is very clear. These interventionist statements mixed with Burrell’s projection are while he refused to provide a single document of Iran’s arms assistance to Russia in the Ukraine war.

The EU foreign policy official continued by repeating the false claim of Iran’s military support to Russia and said: Based on this fact, we have imposed five sanctions packages (against Tehran); Three packages based on human rights violations and two packages due to the delivery of drones to Russia.

He added: However, I think that regarding the issue of the nuclear agreement – the same as the famous JCPOA – communication channels should be maintained and this is a separate issue.

By questioning “Iran’s peaceful nuclear program”, Burrell claimed that all measures should be taken in order to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

Burrell’s statements were raised while Peter Stano, the spokesperson for the foreign policy of the European Union, had recently said that the goal of the European parties to the JCPOA is to break the deadlock in the sanctions lifting negotiations. Despite some rumors and claims, he emphasized that “the JCPOA is not dead, the negotiations have stopped, but the usual relations with Iran are still maintained.”
