China is not afraid of the threat of US sanctions on Taiwan

According to IRNA on Sunday from the website of the Hong Kong publication “South China Morning Post”, “Li Yucheng”, the Deputy Foreign Minister of China, said in a virtual security meeting that blaming his country for the Russian attack on Ukraine is ridiculous. He accused the United States of sacrificing Ukraine for its own geopolitical interests.

“China must be and will be united,” Li Yu Cheng said in response to US warnings that Russia would impose similar sanctions if it invaded Taiwan. Sanctions and isolation will certainly not intimidate China. In the more than seventy years since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, we have experienced storms. “Over the past few years, the United States has consistently taken coercive measures, including imposing import tariffs, reducing cooperation, detaining people on espionage charges, but has failed to crush the country.”

“Not only did we not collapse, but we are growing day by day,” he said. “What should we be afraid of in this situation?”

He also said at the meeting, which was co-ordinated by the China General Diplomacy Forum and Renmin University, that Taiwan was an internal matter and should not be compared to Ukraine. Some individuals and countries, when talking about Ukraine, emphasize respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity, but openly stand on the red line of “one China” and support Taiwan’s independence.

“Recently, the United States has shown its strength against China, gathering various anti-Chinese circles and even making a lot of fuss about the Taiwan issue in order to test this red line,” the senior Chinese official said. This is a version of NATO’s Orientalist expansionism in the Asia-Pacific region. “If we allow this trend to continue, the consequences will be unimaginable, and it will eventually turn Asia-Pacific into a ditch.”

Defending China’s position on the Russia-Ukraine war, he said Beijing was not involved in the Ukraine issue, let alone one of the causes. He emphasized that the decision was a “misrepresentation” of a joint Chinese-Russian statement issued earlier in the day stating that “there is no prohibition on cooperation”. Some have cited it as a reason for China to already know about and support Russia’s plans.

“This is just a normal statement,” said Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

He also acknowledged that by sacrificing Ukraine, the United States was weakening Russia, controlling Europe and continuing hegemony, and a lucrative multilateral agreement. Not surprisingly, they are happy with this situation.

The report concludes that China’s Deputy Foreign Minister believes that sanctions will weaken the international economy and ultimately destabilize the entire world.

“US sanctions have created a number of crises, such as food, energy, financial crisis and global supply chains, and endangered the international political and economic security order,” he said.
