China warns of US warship in the Taiwan Strait

The US Navy Seventh Fleet reported that the ship carrying the USS Port Royal missile was crossing the Strait of Taiwan in international waters yesterday, in compliance with international water laws, IRNA reported on Wednesday. Is. The mission was carried out very shortly after the Chinese military exercise around Taiwan.

The United States conducts such trips once a month in support of Taiwan, which angers China.

Meanwhile, the Chinese Free Army Eastern Command Fleet said in a statement that its forces had observed and warned American ships in the Taiwan Strait.

A statement from China’s military said, “The United States often does this to provoke tensions and escalate tensions in the region and the strait by sending the wrong signals to Taiwanese independent forces.” “Our soldiers are always at the highest level of alert and will face any threat or provocative actions and defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country.”

Noting that the ship crossed the Taiwan Strait corridor beyond the coast, the US Navy added: “The passage of the Royal Navy ship through the Taiwan Strait demonstrates the US commitment to the open waters of the Indo-Pacific region. The United States Air and Navy conducts operations wherever international law permits. »

Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense also called the passage of the American ship a normal traffic on the free waterways to the north of the Taiwan Strait.

Chinese military forces last week conducted another round of military exercises to improve joint combat operations near Taiwan.

The USS Sampson guided anti-missile destroyer crossed the Taiwan Strait on April 27. At the same time, the Chinese government openly condemned the actions as a threat to regional peace and stability.
